I have installed Windows Me Upgrade over Windows 98 (edition 1). I had no problems with the setup, but as Windows Me was booting up after installation, it hung or froze. I have a Dell Pentium 3, 400 MHZ, 128 MB. I did deactive my virus software. Could it be a driver problem? I would appreciate any help. -- thanks

Go to MS Knowledge Base Search at: http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?ln=en-us.
Lookup the article Q273738, which is

This articles has some items for you to try, and also other articles to look at. There is a lot of material to look at.
Also, if this does not get you the answer, I searched on Windows Millennium Edition for startup hangs. This brings help several other articles that may help you.

Just to let you know, WIndows ME does not have a ture DOS. So if there are any DOS based programs that you were running in 98SE, that could be the cause of your hangup. You might be able to find out what is hanging up your system by pressing <Esc> once the Windows logo appears. This will show you what is trying to load, when it actualy locks up.
