Please help!

This is the 1st time i'm having so much problems with uninstalling a program.

I was trying PCTools free version...
But it caused some problems like PC lags...etc

I want to uninstall it.
I read up aachen's advise on the steps to do so.
If i'm not wrong...it should be

1)right click on icon(PCTools) beside the time at the bottom right of our PC, select exit to make sure PCTools is not running.
2)control panel...remove/uninstall
3)c:/....program files....delete files under "PCTools"
4)Make sure there isn't any PCTools files under c:/documents n setting/application

*************************
Now...I had done step1 n 2!
When i come to step 3...
cannot delete 3 files.
1. MSVCP71.DLL
2. MSVCR71.DLL
3. PCTAVShellExtension.dll

The error msg i got was....
-----------------------
Error Deleting file or folder

"Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

The 4th step should be okie as i dun find any "PCTools" files under application.

I had tried to reinstall and uninstall again many times...everytime i'm getting different error msg...error#103, xerdom.dll missing etc...sorry for not being able to quote the no. out as i can't remember it already.

May i ask....what should i do now?
it's important to delete away all the files under "PCTools" right?
Any advise on how to get it done?

Can someone pls help me ?
Thanks a million!

Another small feedback about it, hope it's not offending.
PCTools is really causing lots of problem to my com now...
the 1st time i tried to uninstall, it causes my com to have not network at all...
properly had change some network setting without my knowings.
which had caused me to do a system restore and i'm losing lots of programs...:(:(:(:(

Anyway.....still a big thank you to the kind soul who can help me to with my above problems...xie xie!

Have you tried a re-install then an uninstall in safemode? Give this a go. Should resolve the problem.

The run time errors you are coming across is related to http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45648.

Are you getting the Error code 102?
This occurs when the service engine for PC Tools AntiVirus has failed to start on your computer. It usually happens when you have upgraded PC Tools AntiVirus to the latest version without uninstalling the previous version or it may be caused by another security program on your computer, conflicting with PC Tools AntiVirus.

The service can be restarted through Windows Services (services.msc) or by restarting your computer. Please restart your computer first and see if this resolves the problem. If the problem persists, you will need to check and start the service of PC Tools AntiVirus manually by following steps below.

1. Open services.msc (Start > Run > type "services.msc" without quotation > OK)
2. In the Service.msc windows screen, locate the "PC Tools Antivirus Engine"

At this point PC Tools Antivirus Engine should have 'Stopped' or no Status, if the engine service is running it would show 'Started'

If the engine is not running or stopped then complete the below steps:

3. Double click "PC Tools Antivirus Engine" to open properties
4. Change the Startup type to 'Automatic'
5. Then under 'Service Status', click START button then you will see it will start the PC Tools Antivirus Service
6. Then OK.
Please restart your computer and open services.msc again and check the setting.
7. Close services window and open PC Tools Antivirus from desktop icon
8. If this does not resolve the problem then please complete the steps to reinstall PC Tools Antivirus.

Not a PC Tools-specific answer but since my last post in this thread I've had good success fixing "buggy" uninstalls on XP PCs with http://www.revouninstaller.com/ .

Caveats:
I haven't tried it with Vista.
I haven't needed to use it with PCTAV. Has anyone else?

I would suggest you reinstall PCTAV and run the PCTAV uninstaller.
1. Download PCTAV from http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/
2. Install
3. Click on start> Programs> PCTAV> Uninstall PCTAV
4. Go to c:\Program Files\PCTAV, if you see this folder, make sure you delete it.

Run the link from PC-Pete's post if you wish and everything should be cleared up :D

or if you still have serious problems, from comand line, call uninstall with this command

cmd - > uninstall.exe /l*v c:\log.txt

then send to pctools log file with description. or you can post it here!
