View Full Version : How do I unsubscribe Spyware Doctor?

I've have had a truly terrible experience with Spyware Doctor.

First, my computer crashed countless times when I had it installed.

So I deleted it (months ago).

Then, I received an email today informing me that payment had been received on my annual subscription.

When I was finally able to crack my own password, I clicked on the order placed.

It states the following:

Duration of the subscription: Until cancelled
Payment interval: every 12 months

Underneath that, there's a link that says:

Manage Subscription

I'll just click there and unsubscribe. Easy right? A little too easy maybe.

When I click there, it asks me to login again.

I do so, and it brings me back to the screen describing the transaction that "I" placed.

Unable to find another way to unsubscribe, I repeat this cycle twice more and finally just give up.

So I ask you all:

How can I unsubscribe Spyware Doctor?

Thank you in advance.

Hi cho,

If you would like to cancel the subscription or the auto renewal, please private message me with your license details or order number and I will follow this up.

I would like to stop the automatic subscription and cancel my account also. I sent an email via the 'support' link before the renewal date but to no avail (they renewed against my consent).

This is ridiculous that the only way to even reach this information is by doing a google search. There is no way to access this information on your website. It is equally ridiculous that we must register on this frickin forum and PM you in order to get anything done. PCtools really must do something to correct this issue.

Hi pjt,

This has been done.

Please note that this issue has already been escalated to the senior managers to analyze.

How about a pctools general message explaining what is going on and a least an unmeant apology ? SD4 was good SD5 not so good , are you allowed to legally charge for a product that is not fit for purpose ? coz im sure your not.

Anthony,

Well you can add me to that list as well. I've sent email and the information to Billing@PCTools.com as instructed and I've PM"d Anthony asking about this as well.
While I don't expect an instant reply all I'm asking is that they switch me from auto to manual billing. No refund, no stop service, just give me back my free choice please! Now I hear that people have waited far too long for anything to get done and that means months in advance of their next renewal date?
Gimmee a break here! It's one thing to have software problems, who doesn't? But another to IGNORE your own paying customers billing requests?
An answer is all we ask, "You're screwed sorry" is an answer or "OK it's done" is another that I'd rather hear however.

A little help on small issues goes a long way towards helping ease the larger ones.

I have to ask but as I'm in the same boat that you are did they ask for your consent or did you just get a charge on your account?
I'm collecting information so that if need be I can contest this with my credit card company. I hope it doesn't come to that however. All I want is the auto billing removed, not a refund, not a cancellation just let me decide to renew or not. Is that really asking too much?
I'm just going to ***** like hell until I get results. Maybe we all should?

Perhaps it's time for the Attorney General of the State of Minnesota to investigate the business practices of Digital River, the parent company of Element 5. Although the auto-renewal without permission is a PC Tools policy, the financial institution enforcing it should be just as accountable.

Good point really although I'm willing to give PC Tools the benefit of the doubt and see if they make good on their word.
Like I said before I'm collecting and saving all information about this one issue and hope it it resolved soon.
I also do have an open ticket number on this and when it's resolved I'll post the answer here. I'm not looking for something for nothing, I use it I will pay for it but I don't want someone else telling me they've taken my money without my prior consent. I will choose to renew or not myself.

I just called the toll free support number to cancel mine, 1-800-764-5783.

It took several tries to actually get someone; I actually got an answering machine on a 24/7 support line.

I just gave the guy the order number in the renewal alert e-mail, and he said I'd get a confirmation e-mail shortly that it had been cancelled.

Will post again if the e-mail actually arrives, and will file complaints and charges if I end up getting billed anyways.

Side note, will never use software from this company again.

Umm OK Anthony, What has been resolved, My auto billing problems or what?
If that is indeed the case I tip my hat to you. Will it show up on my next update or what?

Whatever, thanks at least for the reply.

RichR, this is regarding the cancellation of the auto renewals.

It should display the time remaining on the SD GUI after a Smart Update.

:) All is well and Anthony of PC tool s has come through. Changed from auto to manual update no problems. I'm one happy camper right now.
I'm running an updated version of SD4 and plan to stay with that until things settle down a bit. Like I said, a little customer care will buy you a lot of customer good will. I'm sure that SD5 will get straightened out soon.

Thanks again,

Hmm this is indeed worrying, I didn't give permission for this company to automatically take money from my account, I would also like the choice of whether or not I pay for this software. I paid for 12 months only, I didn't pay for more than that and it certainly wasn't made clear that it was an automatic subscription every 12 months (in fact not only wasnt it clear, it wasn't there at all!).

Under UK laws this is illegal, I am sure it is the same in the USA. Please put me on manual subscription, I certainly DON'T want it to be automatic, christ I may not even have a pc in a year, I might be dead, who knows.

Please do this as soon as possible thank you kindly.
