Has anyone else found that SD5 V.174 always says that the latest Scan was today and also the latest Smart Update was also today even though neither were TODAY!

Installed v5.174 yesterday, which isn't causing any overt problem thus-far, and have updated only twice. I'll watch this to see if mine behaves as you've described.

Hi petercardiff,

I haven't experienced the problem described yet. I will also monitor this concern as well.

I got a different probelm with 174 on first day of install, Status screen always showed that a new version is available even tho no smart updates were available. Problem was some how gone when I started my machine second day.

I have the same thing on 2 computers. I'm not sure SD 174 has ever scanned either computer, as it is not set up to scan on boot up.

Furthermore, I have the same version on 2 computers and one machine has Email Guard and the other had it with 172 but not with 174.

This is from an old thread and has been reported already:

Managed to find it and looks like a fix is being worked on.

Hi petercardiff,

Yes. I'm seeing the same. Looks like SD is in perpetual "today" mode.

I wonder, does the program trigger (or suppose to) a 24 hour timer after a scan? Or is it watching the system clock, wanting to trigger post midnight? Or .. what?

Speaking of scans .. maybe I've just not found it yet, but where are the scan logs accessed?

Hi
Scan logs are accessed thorugh Settings > History. You can export the logs as text files.

I see. I'd deleted what history there was and hadn't rescanned, watching perpetual "today". Thanks.

My version 4 is like that and has been for a long time. It only changes if I restart my computer.

Hi Guys,

I think everything is ok with the scan/smart update status details.

I noticed that right after installing SD 5.0 it attempts to perform a smart update as well as a scan on start up. Since those actions start (even if they are manually canceled), the status details are updated. with "today". Also, if you set your clock a day ahead and then bring up SD's interface it will display the word "yesterday" instead of "today".

Hi Patrick,

Well, not disagreeing with what you've said here ... especially jumping the system clock forward, as I've not tried that. But, in SETTINGS, the top-most option, "Run Scan on Windows Startup" has been disabled here since install. And, I've intentionally not initiated a manual scan now for more than two days, watching for a change. It's never reported anything other than "Last Scan was today". Is it scanning without my allowance or control?

My version 4 is like that and has been for a long time. It only changes if I restart my computer.

With version 4, this has something to do with user permissions not being able to remember the settings, thats why after a re-boot, it updates this information. However, with v5, you shouldnt have this problem because its a service and can run in multiple accounts.

For version 5, it might be showing 'last update today' because this version runs a very quick auto intelli-scan during start up. Check the scheduled task to see if there are any scans scheduled. If so then this will need to be escalated.

Cheers,
Chippa

I left the PC on all night (no scans scheduled) and noticed that 5.0.176 also says the last scan was today.

Last night I deliberately hibernated instead of shutting down, this morning the status page showed last update 4 days ago, last scan yesterday I clicked on smart update and there was a small update. The status changed to today for lasst update, correctly and last scan remained at yesterday. After double checking that I had not checked "scan on start" I rebooted. On reboot the status was last scan today. Boot time is getting longer and I wonder if a scan is being started regardless of the user choice, however the boot time is not long enough for a scan in my opinion.

Hi All,

I have added this issue to the Reported Issues Thread: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44951. This is a known issue as the original thread can be found: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44951.

Once a fix has been implemented, I'll update this.

I've just done an experiment.
Boot time with SD5 5m 17s
Boot time SD uninstalled 3 m 30s
I then installed SD4 ran and updated after that the boot time was 3m 54s with auto smart update checked run at start up and monitor in background checked. I intend to run with SD4 for the time being as my PC appears faster with it, not only start up either IE7 is faster. I will try SD5 again in two or three weeks time and hope for some improvement.
