I have just downloaded and installed SD 5.0.0.174, its first message during installation is that the running of SD & PCT Antivirus together is not recommended. What are the consequences of running both?
If this is so are you then prepared to offer me a refund on my PCT Antivirus purchased on 24/02/07. If this is a new issue then I feel that you must make this public to any prospective purchaser of PCT Antivirus or SD.

I would like an answer from PC Tools, not one of the apologists for them who frequent this forum.

Hi Dave,

The reason why you have received this message is because you have installed SD and the AV plugin previously. Therefore we recommend, that you run the SD + AV plugin OR SD + PCTAV standalone. Running both the AV plugin and the PCTAV may have conflicts.

If you would like to run the SD + AV plugin, then uninstall PCTAV. If however, you would like to run the SD + PCTAV standalone, then PM me your license details and I will disable the AV plugin for you.

Let me know if you have any other problems.

Hi Dave,

Usually its just not a good thing to do to run two applications with Kernel drivers and both SD and AV have Kernel drivers but I have ran AV 3.1 and SD 5.0 without any problems and with SD 4.0. Spyware Doctor 5.0 has AV build in and I've been able to upgrade to SD+AV for free as an existing user but I think they have taken this option off for now from what I can read. So I recon for now you should run SD 4.0 and PC Tools AV to be safer and in the near future when they reintroduce the SD+AV just use that. I am saying this because I didn't have any issues with SD 5.0, even the early releases so I am not sure how it will go on your PC. I think thats what this message intended to do. I hope that makes sense?

FYI I run SD 5.0 on Sony Vaio and Toshiba Tecra S1 with Windows XP and no other AV's.
