Scanning a Single File

What are the chances that the development team might create a context menu command to scan a single file for viruses?

Hi Uriel,

Thanks for the suggestion. SD does have a Custom Scan tool, to do this go to Start Scan-> Custom Scan-> Select Drives and folders to scan-> Select the folder you wish to perform a scan.

Oh no Uriel, you shoulde be note that this is anti-spyware not anti-virus program. I don't think one anti-spyware program need have context menu to scan single file ;)

AVG has it, as has Spy Sweeper...
This would be a good feature of SD if it were to be implemented.

I thought viruses infect files and Spyware is usually a combination of many files hence scanning a single file is not something that AntiSpyware should do as it need to associate all other files but than I could be wrong :confused:

this feature would mainly be used for downloaded files and onguard checks them automaticly

I would feel more secure if I could just right click on a suspicious single download and have it scanned within seconds without going through the tedious task of opening an application and navigating to that option. This would save me time.

Hmm if you scan by anti-spyware program, will have not much effect. And i am sure you still may be infect virus and get you more time because you need scan by anti-spyware & anti-virus program :) if you want more secure

When I download things, particularly a Zip archive, I'd like to check it. PC tools does have a menu to select scanning folders on specific drives, BUT THEY DON'T LET YOU ACCESS FOLDERS ON YOUR DESKTOP!

I don't understand why that is. I keep a temp folder on my desktop for things like this, and it's a real pain in the but to have to move them to a special folder in my C drive just to do a Sypware scan.

Could it be that hard to include access to the desktop when you select a folder to scan?

The latest version of Spyware Doctor is an improvement in which has the added ability to scan for viruses besides spyware. A context menu shortcut would be icing on the cake.:)

as i said onguard (file guard) automatically checks downloads:D. there is no need to scan everything manually. if you still want to just put a link to your temp file (which is still placed in c:/) then just drag what you want to scan onto the link and it will go to the temp file
