Hello All,
Would you know how I could tweak my system to obtain a higher connect speed on Windows 2000 ?
I used to get connect speeds of upto 53333 using the same modem on Windows 98. Now I am stuck at 28800.
I have a USR 56k Winmodem.
Thanks in Advance.

There are lots of things that could have happened, 1. Do you have a win2000 driver for that modem. 2. are you dialing the same number like when you were on win98, cause some ISP's have a 28.8line. 3. DID you do a clean Install of windows 2000, or did you just upgrade, because when you just upgrade lots of things can go wrong.

Yes, I am using the same numbers to dial up. It was a clean install of Windows 2000 on a separate logical partition. Windows 2000 recognized and says that it has the most upto date driver for the device. I have tried to run the Driver Upgrade Utility from 3Com, but the program says that there are no modems to detect.
Thank you

Ok this is a problem you will have to sort out with either your ISP, or your modem manufactuer, most likely when you upgrade to Win2000 one hardware device never seems to make it through the upgrade, for me it was my scanner, but a driver for that will be availabe soon, so your problem should be fixed in no time, cause I'm sure other people are having the same problem too.

may sound like a nasty question, but did you check:
ControlPanel > Phone and Modem Options > Modems tab, with your modem selected click Properties button: is speed setting ok?
Did you try to manually re-install modem from the Modem Options Add button, and manually choose the modem (not let the wizard search) ?
