It seems that even while idling SD version 5.0 is using about 200MB of RAM, when you turn it off you'll see your ram meter go down at least a couple hundred. The older version did not use that much memory. I hope this is on their list of resolves.

Before I de-installed SD5 it was starting around 100MB ram, and creaping up to 200.
Now because of this high ram usage (and other major issues, including the file guard blocking some apps, major slowness, and occasional non-responsiveness) I've gone back to SD4 .. and the wonders of 106MB used :p

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. I will add this to the Reported issues and will escalate this to the developers.

Thanks, I know that will be a big plus.

Well, it doesn't use that for me! Are you not confusing virtual with physical RAM? An application will allocate considerably more space virtually in the paging file than is needed. The physical RAM usage is directly linked to the responsiveness of yr PC, especially if you only have 512MB, for example and are running a number of demanding applications.
How did you come to the yr conclusion and what monitoring tool did you use?
Using Process Explorer by Sysinternals, I find that of the 3 processes running at idle:
The service swdsvc.exe uses ~9MB of physical memory, svcntaux.exe uses ~500KB and the program SDTrayApp.exe uses ~1.5MB
Now, correct me if I'm wrong here but is that not ~11MB TOTAL!
Maybe yr 'ram meter' needs calibrated.

Well I know before I de-installed it that when it started out (say 5 mins after everything was loaded) it was around 100MB, and later if I looked at memory used (including by any SD apps, eg SDTrayApp etc) the total was around 200MB after several hours operation
Given they've now acknowledged it as a reported fault, it might be they've managed to replicate the issues
PS my system is
Windows XP SP2 (fully patched)
IE7
Norton AV 2007 (free upgrade from 2006)

just my two cents on this. i noticed today that the sd service was consuming way more memory than seems appropriate. now, this is mostly virtual memory that's been allocated, but the thing is - the next closest process for virtual memory usage is using 1/3 as much! to be specific, as reported by windows task manager:
swdsvc.exe
mem: 8MB
VM: 148MB
iexplorer.exe
mem: 68MB
VM: 50MB
explorer.exe
mem: 16MB
VM: 38MB
this is XP SP2. 2gb ram. 1gb pagefile. i'm unclear why SD needs to allocate so much VM, right at startup. it really, really seems excessive.
