View Full Version : "Notifier" in updates

After the MS forced update fiasco a year ago, where they slid a "notifier" bit into WGA, when I see "notifier", I am more than wary.
I did my normal updates, but un-checked that item until I know what it is.
Any help?
Thanks.

Call me cynical but i feel that same way Curmudgeon. Anyone from PCTools like to shed some light on this part of the latest update?

I really don't know the answer - but I suspect it is a notice notifying us that SD Version 5 is available for upgrade.
Given the current state of SD5, I am not sure why they would want to promote its existence until it is really ready for release is beyond me.

The notifier let me feel uncomfortable, please sweep it in next update!!

Can I just say that I downloaded this "Notifier" thinking it was part of version 4 of Spyware Doctor.
It does indeed ask you to upgrade to v5 'Now' or 'Later'.
However, the next time I logged into my computer the notifier informed me my subscription expires tomorrow and I had to upgrade! Yet I have more than 200 days left on my subscription.
I have read all the horror stories on the 'Version 5.0' forum page, so I am holding back until the bugs are fixed. So if I have problems with version 4 of Spyware Doctor tomorrow due to this notifier I will be furious.

I also have avoided updating from version 4.0 (with which I am very pleased) to version 5.0 after reading all the problems in the forum, but this "notifier" program slipped through this morning. So now I have to click this at every computer startup and hope that it doesn't give problems with the subscription. This is a worrying state of affairs.

Hi All,
Sorry for all the problems. We have removed the notifier from SDv4. To remove this notice, run a Smart Update on SDv4.

When these issues are resolved with SDv5, I will let everyone know. At the moment we have no time frame so I am unable to comment on this.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
