Whenever I attempt to run Regclean I get an
"Illegal Operation" message from Win98, and Regclean is shutdown. This happens just as Regclean is about to load "class identifiers".
Any idea how I can get Regclean to run?

Make sure you're running version 4.1a of RegClean or above, these are the only versions compatible with Windows 98.
Then make sure you have downloaded the latest versions of the Visual Basic run-time libraries see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q147/7/69.asp for more information.

I am having the same problem when RegClean starts scanning class identities for errors. I get a message that REGCLEAN caused an invalid page fault in module REGCLEAN.EXE at 015f:0043c57e. I have followed the suggestions in the first reply to this message with no results. Can anyone help?

I read on the www.win98central.com site that RegClean is no longer neccessary under Windows 98, and that the Registry Checker compacts the registry automatically when it gets bloated.
