Smart Update - unable to connect to the server

I decided to update to V5. I uninstalled V4 and installed V5. Now I get Smart Update failure with the explanation "unable to connect to the server".

I have given V5 full permissions with my firewall. I long ago removed all Symantec(Norton) software on my machine.

I have tried disabling my virus checker and firewall and still the update fails.

1) What am I missing?

2) Where can I redownload V4 in the interim?

Windows XP Home, dual core -Opteron, 2 Gig RAM.

It states in another post that updates are not available at the moment for SDv5. This should be working shortly. You can always go back to SDv4 if you require the updates.

If there are /have been updates, why doesn't it say Up to date like V4.

And do you know how I can download V4?

I currently have 5.0.0.169
Database version 6.06900
I think this database came out Friday or Saturday.
However when I hit smart update it checks and informs me the programme is up to date just as it did with V4 - so something is wrong if you are getting a message unable to contact server.
Maybe reverting back to V4 until some of the outstanding issues are resolved is a good idea.

Saxel - yes, thanks for confirming this is an issue. So far I haven't found anyone else with quite the same problem on this board... but I may have missed them!

Can you provide a link to this. I have version 5.0.0.169 with database 5.06900 installed. I see there was a new database released this morning (06910) but SD keeps telling me that it is up to date.

OK - I tried the 174 build and now I get error on trying to update - Error downloading the list of updates. Going back to V4 again I guess.

I have clean installed SD5 v.176, however, followed above procedure and still have the "error while downloading the list of updates" message in Smart Update. Once again, I deactivated both Zone Alarm pro v7 and Avast Home free but no improvement. Please note, that I did not have any such problems with SD4. Is there something I am not doing right?

My 176 updated automatically a couple of hours ago, present database:07020.
This time it just popped up:Updated successfully, then disappeared again. Not the previous warning: Updates available, klick 'yes' or 'no'.
