Hi Marian. If you read down through the recent threads, you'll see quite a few people having trouble with version 5. I had v4 for over a year. As soon as I got v5 my machine slowed to a crawl, froze up, crashed and burned. I uninstalled and am back to v4.

If you don't want to uninstall and go back to v4, you can disable Spyware Doctor by going to Settings > Startup settings, and un-check the "Run at Windows Startup" box. Next startup SD shouldn't start.

PC Tools Support is aware of the problem, and we're all hoping for a fix soon. So you're not unprotected in the meantime, you can go with freeware like Spybot S&D, AdAware, etc.

Hope this helps a little.

P.S.: Keep checking back here to follow the progress of this problem

Hi Marian,

The scan will also take a while if you have installed the AV plugin, as this will scan for both Spyware and viruses.

If you run SD on its own, then this should only take about 30min.

You can always go back to SDv4 if you are having problems with version 5.
