Can you tell me when Spware Doctor, Registry Mechanic and the other programs will support Windows XP 64 bit? I would very much like to use the Spyware Doctor with the AV plug in and the new firewall program.

Hi starlighter90,
At the moment, Spyware Doctor, Registry Mechanic and PCTAV is not supported with the Vista 64 bit platform. The developers are considering this and in the meantime I am unable to provide you with a time frame of when this will happen. But if I do receive further info, I will be more then happy to pass this on.

I'm confused!
Based on PC Tools' specs format, e.g. for Firewall Plus:
Platforms: Designed for Windows Vista™ 32-bit, XP, 2000 and Server 2003.
I assumed that compatibility included 32 & 64 bit versions unless otherwise stated. According to Anthony's post, this is not the case.
Please clarify the specs for each product and standardise the terminology.

What is so confusing?

'starlighter90' asked about XP 64-bit.
But 'AChen' replied regarding Vista 64-bit, not XP 64-bit!
I had previously assumed that Vista™ and XP as in:
Spyware Doctor Full Version Information
Current Version: 5.0
File Size: 19,071 KB
Operating System: Designed for Windows Vista™, XP and 2000. Windows 98 users click here.
meant all versions, unless qualified, as in the specs for F+:
Download the latest version of PC Tools Firewall Plus and activate complete network protection for free!
Released: March 5, 2007
Size: 3,734 KB
Platforms: Designed for Windows Vista™ 32-bit, XP, 2000 and Server 2003.
Ergo, if one product specifies 32-bit only for one OS, in this case Vista™, it follows that OSs listed without qualification refer to all versions of that OS, including 64-bit. If this is not the case, as 'AChen' has stated, then it needs to be clearly stated on the web page for each product.

Hi PC Pete,
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the feedback.
For clarification, all the PC Tools products is not supported by Windows XP 64-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit, however, we do support Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Vista 32-bit. The developers are considering developing future version which is supported by the 64-bit platform.
If there are any updates on this, I will pass this info on.

I have been a loyal PC Tools customer for many years now and have used Spyware Doctor and Registry Mechanic with my 64 bit windows but now everytime I start up Win XP 64 bit which has version 4.0 it tells me to upgrade to version 5.0 which I would very much like to do. If it was my business and version 4.0 worked with 64 bit I would have made version 5.0 to work with 64 bit right from the start instead of telling us it might happen in the future. With all the 64 bit programs coming out and 64 bit computers being sold the future is now not years from now. Why not be a leader not a follower. The idea of Spyware Doctor with the Antivirus plug-in was a very good idea now just make sure all your loyal customers can use the new versions. Just my opinion but hope someone listens.

What are all these programs comming out in 64 bit versions? I was running Vista 64 a couple of weeks ago and there were few -very few- programs available. Most sites stated that they were looking into 64 but until more demand was there it wasn't a priority. Others said it would be a big investment and they weren't sure they wanted to spend the time and money at this point.
I went back to 32 bit since there just wasn't enough support to make it worth it and what was there wasn't giving me any better performance anyway.

There is a big difference between Win XP 64 and Vista 64 bit. Win XP has been out quite awhile so more things are available but still not near enough. Everyone seems to be taking the wait and see stategy which just doesn't work. Also you have to hunt for the 64 bit versions on the websites as they are not as visible as the 32 bit programs. Sites like www.planetamd64.com (http://www.planetamd64.com) will guide you to alot of 64 bit programs.

I guess we can not "assume".
Vista being touted as 64 bit operating system and the software being listed as Vista compatible.
Time to look around for one that does work with XP x64 OS.
I fully agree with the posters here.
I notice that some free good spyware programs do work on 64-bit and eventhought programs like these are better then the free ones, whats the point if they are not evolving towards future operating systems wich will all be 64-bit within the next couple of years.
This makes people combine tons of free programs until they get what they want and you will not have made any money!
If you want to remain ontop of the list and get buyers such as myself you'd best upgrade your programs ASAP.
The entire reason why I'm here is because I need a good spyware remover and I wanted to buy the full package (4 programs) you've got to offer.
Fortunatly I checked the compatibility first.
Through what I've read online Spyware doctor is just a little better then spysweeper eventhough your updates are slower but thats acceptable considering what you have to offer.
But please consider the customers you might lose if you do not remain up to date ! You might lose customers such as myself who needed a spyware remover soon but I will now have to find one that works on my pc elsewhere. If however you can build an update soon, I might still buy from you since I'd rather work with programs that work.

True in a way but it really depends on the apps you use and what you are looking for. I use about 25 apps and all are true 64 bit. However MS still allows the 64-bit Vista to run in 32-bit emulation mode just to ensure that some drivers perform well.
As for performance on 64-bit i think the amount of memory needed has been largely underspecified so more memory the better. I too will patiently wait for the versions of SD and RM compatible with 64 bit Vista.
Yeah well its still not our jobs to get a new operating system just because someone isn't up to date... Companies have more money to spend so why should the consumers always be punished...
I updated myself on Windows Vista compared to my current Winxp pro 64 bit and it seems as if they only diffirence is a Now ugly looking layout (vista).
A shopowner nearby even adviced me not to switch from my current operating system to vista since as he claimed himself, isn't worth getting yet
(he's an honest person wich makes him a good shopowner and he has got 20 years of experience in the PC world so he knows what he's talking about)
Some people claim you can't see the diffirence but obviously their mental response time is not what it should be if they do not notice the diffirence wich I definatly do. Its 64bit all the way for me, same for half of my programs wich I run until they update themselves to 64bit eventualy.
Why live in the past when we are heading towards the future? Ofcourse that road has its unfinished bumps in the road (vista) but some people just need to ignore those and should not be distracted by all the commercial lies spread.
In anycase back to the problem at hand. I'm not complaining here that the program doesn't support 64bit, im just a bit dissapointed because from what i've seen on an older computer, spyware doctor is an awsome program and I would love for it to work on my new rig aswell
