Hi everyone, I've just joined here as I'm having problems with the antivirus prog, had error 103 appear, I found this forum and had a read tried a few things, ie uninstalled AV re installed it, seemed ok but then I got the error buffer overload which closed down my IE7, I've uninstalled the AV program again and at the moment every thing appears to be running as it should although I now have NO anti virus program, are the probs I've had caused by the smart up date problem that a lot of people are suffering here?
I want to get my anti virus back up and running any suggestons please?
Thanks in advance Condor...:)

Hi Condor,

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the latest PC Tools Antivirus Smart Update which had caused the 'error 103' error message.

This issue has since been resolved on our Smart Update servers. However, you will need to perform the following steps to obtain the fix.

Please note: This fix will only work for those that received the error after a Smart Update was performed.

Please complete the steps below to reinstall PC Tools Antivirus. Once reinstalled, perform a Smart Update which will resolve the problem.

1. Download PC Tools Antivirus from the link below:

http://www.pctools.com/downloads/avinstall.exe

2. Ensure that PC Tools Antivirus is not running by going to Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys) and ending the PC Tools Antivirus processes (pctavsvc.exe & pctav.exe)

3. Reinstall PC Tools Antivirus downloaded from step 1

4. Once installed, perform a Smart Update which will resolve the problem

Please let me know if you are still have a problem.

Hi again, re buffer overload problem, I thought this problem had been cured however, when other users (ie my kids signin in thier name) are using the pc especially MSN messenger the buffer overload notice appears and closes IE down,(windows xp home edition) when I was using the pc it was fine untill today while trying to fix the bufferoverload problem by uninstalling re installing the antivirus I then had the problem when I was signing in as me and using the pc, I had MSN messsenger running but couldn't access my hotmail as the buffer over run notice came up and closed down all web pages but messenger was still working? ,( I have now uninstalld antivirus again and the problem appears to have gone now, any ideas how I can fix this as I now have NO anti virus running...Best wishes Condor..:)

Hey Condor,

It appears that Internet Guard is a little too sensitive and checking all incoming and outgoing transactions, causing the "Buffer Overrun" of Internet Browsers (mostly IE7, but it happens to Firefox from time to time). This is the reason browsing may be a little slow. I've been advised from Support that this is being worked on by the developers.

So as a workaround, disable Internet Guard.

At the moment it is recommended to have Internet guard and Email guards turned off. If you have Spyware Doctor subscription you can download Spyware Doctor 5 with AV plugin from this link: www.pctools.com/product/download
It seems that developers were quite busy with Spyware Doctor 5 and now it is released so I would assume PC Tools Anti-Virus issues should be fixed quite soon :D

Thank you, although I've changed the settings as you suggested when other users sign in ie my kids at times they are still getting the buffer overload warning and shutting down of I.E , when I'm signed in I get no problems? why would this occur?
Thank again Condor..:)
