I'm trying to recover someone's tax files that they accidentally deleted on my WD Passport portable USB hard drive. When I try to scan it, all it wants to find is video files and pictures and then it stalls on everything else. Is there any way to fix this and recover those files? NEED THOSE FILES!

Chibibrenty, thanks for contacting PC Tools.

Regarding the Tax files you need to recover.

You may wish to try an Advanced Scan.

You can access this page by clicking the "Start Scan" button on the left side of the program. There are two sections in this page, "Scan type and Locations" is in the left side, you can select 'Quick Scan', 'Deep scan', or 'Physical Scan', and also can select the logical drives, USB drives and physical drives (if others are connected).

"Advanced Filtering" is in the right side. This is very flexible and intuitional for the central management.

Default settings:

* Deep Scan
* All drives will be ticked
* All or part of the file name empty
* All extensions will be ticked
* All file sizes is selected.

No setting from this page will be saved to the registry. Every time you load File Recover the drives will be selected. The settings in the filter section won’t be changed until they have been committed to the filter settings page.

If Quick Scan / Deep scan are selected the physical drives list is disabled. When you select the physical scan radio button the Physical scan warning will popup.

If a you select a quick scan the Deep scan message will still appear after the quick scan will terminate.
The physical scan stands on its own, and you cannot have a Quick / Deep scan in one scan.

Under 'Advanced Filtering' you can also type in "All or part of the file name"

=============================

File Recover will list all deleted files that are recoverable. It uses a special algorithm to skip certain non-recoverable files.

Not all deleted files will be recoverable, it depends on your specific hard disk fragmentation, disk usage patterns and other things, specific to your local PC.

File Recover has been designed to recover the remaining data on your hard disk. However, File Recover is not designed to repair the content of deleted files. It is important to know the difference so you understand what File Recover does.

A deleted file that is corrupted or partially re-used by the Windows operating system will not be readable. This is not a factor of File Recover software, but a factor of how the Windows operating systems will recycle part (or the entire) of deleted files.

Most recently created and deleted files are the most hard to recover, since the the new files are created at the first empty spot in the Master File Table. Older files that have recently been deleted are much easier to recover.

File Recover does recover deleted files that remain intact on your hard disk. A percentage of 'larger' recovered files will have missing header information, or be otherwise cross-linked or corrupted.
