Hi gtloepke,

Please complete the following to ensure that all necessary steps have been undertaken to ensure you have the latest protection from related malware.

1. Perform a Smart Update
2. Under 'Select An Action' please select 'Immunize Your Computer'
3. Ensure that OnGuard and all OnGuard tools are set to ON
4. Perform a FULL Scan
5. 'Fix and Continue'

1. Open Spyware Doctor and click on Tools, select the Malware Detective Tool and then click Run Tool and Next to continue.

2. Tick the box 'I have received a request from support to run the malware Detective' and click Next> to continue.

3. Please wait until the Malware Detective Wizard collects the required information from your computer. (this may take several minutes)

4. Enter your name and email address and ticket number in the spaces provided. In the section "Enter Your Question Below", please enter or copy and paste your ticket number.

Note: Spyware Doctor version 5 Beta does not yet have the malware detective tool. So if you have installed the Beta version, you will need to uninstall this and download Spyware doctor version 4 (www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download).

Once you have sent in the malware log, could you please provide me with the ticket number and I'll follow this up.

This sounds like a variant of Smitfraud, (there are so many types floating about the internet these days), if you haven't got it resolved yet via using the 'Malware Detective', have a look through your add/remove programs in the meantime. These usually come into the machine via a small program like a Fake Codec or Key Generator, (to name but a few). Check if there is anything strange there that you know you haven't installed and uninstall it and also delete any remaining program files associated with it that they leave behind, you must empty the recycle bin and reboot after doing this. (If you are not sure about anything that you notice to be 'strange' on the list, type it into a google search to see what information you can find on it first).

Sometimes you can't actually 'clean' the infection until the culpriting program has been uninstalled.

PS. Spyware Doctor's analysis is correct, DO NOT download any program that it is badgering you to, this is the nature of Smitfraud, you will get more malware with it, and it will fix nothing!
