View Full Version : Unable to repair errors

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Whenever I carry out a scan, whether a full scan or custom scan, when the scan is finished the RM window vanishes before I can ask for the repairs to be made. It seems that it is still running in the background as the only way I can stop it is by doing a ctrl alt del. I tried the support team some month's back to no avail and thought I'd see if someone here has had a similar problem. I'm fairly convinced that it has something to do with my system as RM worked fine up until I bought a new PC at the end of last year. It would be nice to get it up and running again!

Gaucho,
It is possible that you have set Registry Mechanic to automatically fix errors. You can check this setting by looking in Settings. If there is a check in the box next to Remove all problems automatically you will not be prompted to fix the problems at the end of the scan.
As for the vanishing it sounds alot like Registry Mechanic has gone into monitor mode where it will run in the background. Check for an icon in the system tray near the clock in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
thanks

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I already thought of that one. I don't have it set to remove problems automatically. There is no icon in the system tray. Task Manager tells me that the software is still running. If I then close it down through Task Manager and restart RM it tells me when I last ran the scan and how many errors were found. Obviously none of them have been fixed. If I then minimise it, it goes into monitoring mode. Very strange. I still think there is something on my system that is causing the upset.

Uninstall Registry Mechanic, Reinstall and run a scan in safemode. Check if this works.
What other security programs are you running?

did you try performing scan in safemode?

Yes I did all that when the support group were trying to help me out. Didn't work I'm afraid. running AVG and Spyware Doctor.
gaucho,
What I would suggest is to completely uninstall Registry Mechanic (including the Registry Mechanic folder in the windows program files), restart your computer in safe mode and (while the computer is running in safe mode) download Registry Mechanic from www.pctools.com again and then run a full scan (again, while the computer is running in safe mode).
*On a side note, make sure the "repair all problems automatically" option is not selected.
I think it might be a glitch in the download itself that's causing this to happen.
Just my thoughts anyway.

Eli,
Thanks but we've already tried that and it didn't work.
Gaucho,
Based on the description of the problems that have occurred, we have not received any reports from other users experiencing the same or similar issues.
Since other programs that are already running may be hindering the proper operation of Registry Mechanic can you please complete the following steps:
*Note: please make sure that you have unplugged/disconnect your broadband/internet connection before performing below instructions*
1. Start -> Run -> type msconfig
2. Click Startup tab
3. Temporarily uncheck all the items
4. Reboot
5. Start Registry Mechanic.
6. Perform a Scan
If this is successful this would indicate that one of the startup items is affecting Registry Mechanic. To find this suspect program try and add one program at a time to the startup items in msconfig and reboot your computer and load Registry Mechanic.
As soon as Registry Mechanic fails to load the last startup item added to msconfig would be the one affecting Registry Mechanic. Please reply to this email with the details of the particular program that is affecting Registry Mechanic.
Please let me know how this goes
Kind Regards,

Kanica, sorry I haven't replied sooner, I've been away. I'm afraid it did not work. I carried out your instructions, unchecking all the items in Startup, ran a custom deep scan and as soon it finished scanning the RM window just disappeared. I really feel we have tried everything. Very frustrating.

Gaucho,
I'm certainly not an expert however consulting my work team, they recommend ghosting you're important files (personal) and if all else fails, reformatting your hard drive. Time consuming reloading OS, updates, all programs...
Hopefully it won't come to that.

Thanks Stephen. I think I'd rather drop RM!
