Hi PCTools,

I have applied the latest Windows XP cumulative update, which includes the slow IE7 fix kb928090 - see above "sticky". (Reboot) Saw no significant change in IE7 startup time - not that IE7 (without SD5 installed) was slow previously for me. Noted MS's knowledgebase info wrote that the fix involved changes to how IE7's new phishing filter worked.

Then installed SD5 beta 4 over SD4. While SD5 was getting online updates during the install, BitDefender 10 AV tried to auto-update itself and the CTD "BSOD" that I reported recently in this forum happened again. In all cases the "offending" file is identified as bdrsdrv.sys (a BD10 file) with the report "driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_pending_operati ons". Given that this does not occur when SD5 is NOT on my system, BD10 might of course be no more than a hapless victim in this case. On reboot I saved the two files that are part of the error report generated when the system recovers from a serious error. I can send them to you if that might assist in debugging. With SD5 un-installed (and system rebooted) my system is stable again, ie, no CTDs!

With SD5 beta 4 installed, file uploads/downloads using the FTP service in Dreamweaver 8 do not work. With SD5 uninstalled and system rebooted, FTP is ok again.

IE7 phishing filter, CTD when SD5 & BD10 are using Internet access at the same time, DW8 FTP upload/download not working.... Do all of these have a common FTP problem with SD5 installed?

Needless to say, I have opted to remove SD5 from my system again. Back to SD4....

Hi PC Tools,

I installed beta 7 early this morning. When assessed against the issues I logged with beta 4, this latest beta is looking much better!

Dreamweaver 8 FTP services now work properly in the presence of SD5 - thanks for the fix.

BitDefender AV 10 hourly auto-updates no longer lead to a system crash (BSOD) with SD5 installed (at least not for the 6 hours they've been running together so far). Thanks again...

IE7 is still noticeably slower (ie, by a number of seconds) to open with SD5 installed, but opening new webpages under the same tab or under another tab seems to move as quickly as when SD4 was installed (or if it is slower, it's not particularly obvious to me that it is). So there's seems to be improvement overall here. The longer IE7 startup is still a nuisance though, because the startup time is about 10 seconds, vs 3-4 seconds previously. I think, incidentally, that the MS February security updates to IE7 actually cause IE7 to open to my start page a little slower than before as well (around 1-2 secs), but didn't do a rigorous before & after test at the time.

Once again, thanks for the information :)

Hopefully we'll have this resolved with the next release. The developers are working on fixing the slow IE issue and the other outstanding issues.

Cheers,
Anthony

Hi PCTools,

The BSOD I refer to in post #3 above was fixed in a later beta, and stayed away up to build 5.0.0.176. I smart-updated to build 177 two or three days ago, and have been getting the same BSOD again, intermittently. I've uninstalled SD5.0.0.177 and my system is stable again. Any change I could get a full download of build 176 to tide me over?

We are currently analyzing the conflict between Bitdefender and SDv5. If you are coming across this, could you please "Enable the kernel compatibility mode" to see if this helps. To do this go to Settings-> tick the checkbox for 'Enable kernel compatibility mode-> Apply-> Reboot.

Enabling the kernel compatibility mode does not compromise the security or SD in any way. It does not affect the OnGuard tools or the scanning capabilities of Spyware Doctor. It changes the method in which Spyware Doctor integrates with the system but has the same capabilities.
