The good news about beta 4 is that there is no conflict with ZASS 7 :D !

The bad news is that when ZASS went to do its hourly signature update SD threw up a pop up from the task bar saying that a MALWARE program is attempting to update and SD has blocked it???

How do you get around this??

awesome1,

This is a known issue, and a workaround is to disable OnGuard while downloading the updates for ZASS 7.

To help us with this, could you please send your history file from SDv5 Beta.

Please have OnGuard enabled
Perform an update with ZASS 7
Go to Settings -> History -> to the latest log (top) -> Save to File
Attach the log to your reply.

Many thanks for your prompt reply and support!

Unfortunately I have been unable to replicate this issue?? The ZASS updates are updating without SD pop up interupting it.

I will continue to monitor the two softwares and post back if the issue happens again.

Thanks again.

Hi Achen.

Today SD5 Beta 4 did block ZASS 7 from updating but this time instead of it being the AV update which went fine it was antispyware update and below is the following report I found in history and settings:

15/02/2007 16:00:49:578
OnGuard: System Event Blocked
Threat Name - NetBus
Details - Spyware Doctor has blocked an application attempting to access a file.
Risk Level - High
Infection - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\Updates\unpacked==ant i_spyware=SpywareDatabase-70-Patch.zip\tools\patch.exe

Hope this helps in some way but please let me know if you require further information.

Many thanks

According to the Forum Moderator on http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=inst&message.id=63507 this issue was passed to PC Tools when version 7 of ZA was issued. Whey only then is another issue, they say

The problem is in the PCTools software and not ZoneAlarm

ZA developers made PCTools aware of the issue soon after the launch of 7.0

The problem PCTools has is the same issue System Mechanic 7 had with ZA 7.0

Both PCTools and System Mechanic use a 3rd party development product that cause the issue.

The 3rd party Development tool was corrected by that company and System Mechanic 7 was updated and works fine now.

We have been waiting for PCTool to update there software also which as far as we know has not happened nor do we have an eta from them when it will be fixed.

So just so everyone understands. THIS IS NOT A ZONEALARM ISSUE, its must be corrected by PCTools.

Hi John7,

Please be aware that this issue has already been resolved in Spyware Doctor version 5 Beta (3).

This is different to the problem awesome1 is experiencing. We are currently working on resolving the issue with SD blocking ZASS from updating. The Malware Research Centre is currently looking into this.

Hi AChen again.

Don't know if there is any relevance to this theory of SD blocking ZASS cause I have not gone into detail as I am no computer wizzard, but was wondering if the problem occured when ZASS updates and changes the engine and DAT file version to one or both of the AV & AS? Cause everything changes in the product version of ZASS.

Regards.

Hi Everyone,

For those that are having problems updating ZASS 7 with SDv5 Beta running, could you please upgrade to the latest version. Spyware Doctor version 5.0.0.161 (http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/beta) to see if this resolves the issue.
