Don’t get me wrong I love Registry Mechanic.
But I am surprised to be getting a renewal notice.

As far as I can see it doesn’t say anyplace on their site that this is a subscription product.
If they are going to sell this as a subscription then they should say so up front when you purchase it, like McAfee, or any of the other subscription programs do.

Not only that! It doesn’t say how much it costs to renew your subscription.

I followed the process to the “Renew now” button and no mention of the cost.
Do I have to pay the full 29.95 just to get updates? This isn’t a anti virus program like McAfee with daily updates.

What’s the deal, what am I getting for my update money? The only thing I see when I hit the smart update button is the option to get other languages.

Hi Mike,

Can you PM me your email address at the time of purchase so that I can locate your order?

Says subscription on the purchase page at least: "Subscription including all new versions, unlimited smart updates and customer support for 1 year."

Hi

I still don't understand what I'm getting for 29.95.
I don't see a later version then the one I am running and this is the full cost of the program.

I don't think that the program quits working after a year, does it?

If all that you are paying for is possible future updates why pay in advance?

I have never notices any definitions or anything like that, that you would have with an anti-virus program. The only updates that I see available are additional languages.

Mike,

Please be assured that if you choose not to renew your subscription for Registry Mechanic, you are still able to continue using the current version of Registry Mechanic installed on your computer. Your registered copy of Registry Mechanic will still have the ability to scan and fix past the expiry date.

If you do choose to renew your subscription, you will continue to receive the following benefits:
• Access to our Technical Support Team for technical assistance
• Free updates and upgrades to Registry Mechanic

thanks

HI

Thanks for the info.

I love your product and if you come out with a later version I may update but it seems to me that you should offer a modest update fee to registered users, most software producers do, even Adobe does that.

It seems to me that if the program costs 29.95, then 14.95 or even 9.95 should be a fair price to upgrade from a previous version.

You actually might generate more income that way, I wouldn’t hesitate to upgrade my software for a reasonable fee, but I don’t see why I should pay for an update in advance which is essentially what I am doing if I renew now when there is no update available.

I suppose that the tech assistance could be important but I have to admit I have never had any problems with Registry Mechanic.

I know that the “Update Now” thing is just a marketing ploy but it think that a straight forward upgrade approach would serve you better and keep your customers happy as well.

29.95 for purchase and renewal is more than reasonable for the level of support that is provided and the good product. It's expensive to maintain a support team. $30.00 for renewal is a steal.

And your not forced to do it in any way.

I agree entirely with Mike's post and I would be interested to know under what circumstances updates would apply to this "software gem" and how many updates have been made in the last year?

Hi Pedro0118,

If you need any assistance, you can private message me and I will look into any issues you may have with RM.

Please be advised that the Smart Update function in Registry Mechanic does not need to be operated frequently. The reason for this is the nature of registry and the function to repair any errors in your computer by Registry Mechanic does not require any updates to the program coding.

You may click on Smart Update once registered, at any time, and it will double check files in your Registry Mechanic program with our servers to make sure your installed files are the latest version.

If your Registry Mechanic is up to date you will simply receive a message in the Smart Update window that your database is up to date.

If any part of your Registry Mechanic is out-dated, you will be offered the ability to download those new components to replace your existing installation.

Hi again

I still don't see why I should be paying for a newer version of the program before it comes out, when I already have a fully functional and registered copy installed on my computer, other then to get rid of the annoying popup every time I start the program.
If you come out with version 7 just send my and e-mail, tell me what additional functionality I will get and ask if I want to pay to upgrade, and I'll decide then.

I certainly don’t see why anyone would want automatic renewal; you may be paying for nothing at all. I haven’t seen an update history but it seems to me that I have been using version 6 for a long time.

And I still think that there should be a break in the price for registered users, why should people who have already paid for the product pay as much for the new version with unknown additions to its utility pay as much as first time purchasers.

I got a subsription renewal notice too. I was under the impression that renewals would be done automatically unless I requested otherwise. Am I wrong?

Hi Mike,

Once you have purchased the 12 months subscription, this includes any new product upgrades, smart updates and full technical support during this period. If a new version is released you do not need to pay again if you are within the subscription period. All you need to do is uninstall RM and re-install the newer version.

Merv - Once you purchase the product it will automatically be renewed the year after. However, if you wish to cancel this, you can by contacting Support or you can private message me with your license details or order number and I can have this followed up.

I too got a renewal notice on my Registry Mechanic about 8 days before it was to kick in again. The website only gave me the support email address. Luckily, I saved my credit card statement from the year before which had the www.element5.com address on it. I put www.element5 into google and found the website immediately. It only asked for the last 4 digits of the credit card used and it came up with my Registry Mechanic account and how to cancel the account. I cancelled, printed the invoice and now I feel assured I won't be billed $29.95 again. For do it yourselfer's like me, it worked fine, otherwise I would have to go through the PC Tool's support system. Either way, make sure you act as soon as you get the renewal notice if you want to cancel. I never really used it that much during the year and so I decided not to renew.

I also wasn't aware of the fact that Registry Mechanic was a subscription service. This, on top of the disaster we're all experiencing with Spyware Doctor V.5. I'm not renewing any of my subscriptions to PCTools.

Looks like PCTools has just decided to go for the gold at our expense.

Too bad. They always seemed like an ethical company.

Mike
the 29.95 pay to keep the program up to date (small tweaks to tackle new issues) plus you should have just gone up to version 6:confused:, if that isn't enough how do you think they pay for the forums (the resources of which you are using)

Not to mention the support team, developers, upgrades and so on. It would be great if all things were free. Would any of us want to work for free!!! ;) thats the question that needs to be asked.

I believe they are working as hard as it gets to fix these issues. Especially with their reputation on the line.

i something similar to spyware doctor 5 happened with registry mechanic without smart updates and the forums a lot of users would be in big trouble. it says that it's a subscription service in many places including your conformation email. that is why you should read these things even if it does take 5 minutes of your important time.
