Hello,
I have a problem with my windows desktop. I shutdown my computer one night, and in the morning when I started it back up again, the fonts in the icons were different, the fonts in the start menu were different, and all of the arrows for drop-down boxes, and number selection boxes had changed to the number 6. Check boxes and radio buttons also changed to look like styalized b's when activated.
If anyone thinks that they may know how to fix this problem, please let me know. It would be much apreciated.
Thank you,
Thomas

Have you tried to change the Desktop Themes settings? I think its under the Control Panel.

I think that is a glitch not a desktop theme problem because it will show the 6 on me when i have internet explorer open and it freezes or errors or something like that. But it doesn't change the font it just puts a 6 on the forward button or over there somewhere but its gone if i restart it. You could try runnin scandisk.

Well my freind I do remember some viruses a little back that would change the appears of button ( like the minimize and MAX buttons on a window ) and put things like that or funny symbols.
You might want to check around with an update virus checker to see what it can find.

My bro experiences exactly the same thing. His only fix tho is a complete reinstall of win95 or 98. But the problem keeps occurring after some time. I suspect for his PC that hardware is to blame, afterall his comp is a few yrs old. Funny thing, tho, MS scan disk comes up with nothing, not even physical problems, and anti-virus software comes up with nill too. I haven't offered a solution, but this anecdotal shtuff may help you determine what the problem isn't.

min/max/close buttons, arrows, radio/checkbuttons etc are symbols Windows takes from Marlett.ttf (hidden in fonts folder). You might extract a copy out of the installations cabs, or maybe just fix the fonts folder with Tweakui, as other fonts seem to be affected too...

Is "Save Settings on Exit" enabled? This would be the easiest thing to fix.
