View Full Version : RENEWALS - Offensive - Faulty - Confusing

I'm new to this forum but not new to the use of these programs.
Although Spyware seems to work, I'm sorry but I find it offensive
when I CONTINUALLY receive 'Pop Ups' to renew, and renew, and renew and renew .....
If you ask me, this program purposefully puts limitations to the removal
capability every so often, to force you to always renew until you can
successfully remove certain infections - well I guess you call that
the free enterprise system?
AND
Clicking on the Quarantine List does NOT easily give the user the option
to plainly and simply 'DELETE'
The use of the word is 'Restore' is CONFUSING at best!
Why the heck would you want to 'RESTORE' an infection?
And now after just spending another $30 for version 4.0.0.2621,
it seems Spyware will still NOT remove about 16 more Bonzai Buddy infections
And I also see that others have complained about the fact that the program's design is faulty when it takes FORVEVER to load!
I have 3 Gigs of RAM, Plenty of Hard Drive space, and and a 3 Gig processor - this is REDICULOUS
What's up with all of this?

Hey there enigmacode,
About the Quarantine list right clicking brings up a menu that has delete on it. I would guess that restore would be in case there was a false positive and removing it caused problems.
Version 4.0 does take ages to load but thats been fixed in Version 5.0 which is being beta tested. There is a forum dedicated to the 5.0 beta: http://www.pctools.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54 so you might want to check that out and see if it helps.
thanks

Enigmacode,
Sorry for the trouble you have been experiencing. I will try and answer each of the questions you have raised.
Regarding the constant renewal notices can you please PM me your license code and I will check what is happening with it for you. If you have renewed and it is still telling you to renew try doing a smart update and see if that removes the notice.
There is no limitation placed on the removal capabilities to force anyone to renew. Spyware Doctor will continue to remove the infections it was able to move even if your license has expired.
Regarding the Quarantine and Loading issue darkbeholder is correct in his answer about the problem.
Please complete the following to ensure that all necessary steps have been undertaken to ensure you have the latest protection from malware.
1. Perform a Smart Update
2. Under 'Select An Action' please select 'Immunize Your Computer'
3. Ensure that OnGuard and all OnGuard tools are set to ON
4. Perform a FULL Scan
5. Fix and Continue
If threats are found after the full scan, click on 'Fix and Continue'
If the problem continues, please complete the following steps which will enable us to troubleshoot the problem in far more detail.
1. Open Spyware Doctor and click on Tools, select the Malware Detective Tool and then click Run Tool and Next to continue.
2. Tick the box 'I have received a request from support to run the malware Detective' and click Next> to continue.
3. Please wait until the Malware Detective Wizard collects the required information from your computer. (this may take several minutes)
4. Enter your name and email address in the spaces provided. In the section "Enter Your Question Below", please describe the nature of the infection you believe you have.
We will then analyze the information and respond as soon as possible.
thanks

Hello
I'm sorry for sounding off about this, but it's been bugging me for some time.
Yes I think PC Tools has enough of my money now -it isn't asking me to renew anymore (at least not right now)
The prompt "'Fix and Continue" always confused me. Again why would you want to 'FIX' a harmful file?
"the Quarantine list right clicking brings up a menu that has delete on it"
Although I'm familar with this option for other programs, the option for 'Right Click' isn't explained very well for PC Tools ....
Ok well perhaps PC Tools is trying to fix the lengthy load problem, but if I download this Beta application, does it mean I have to pay for it?
And does the Beta download 'REPLACE' my current version 4.0.0.2621?
Just exactly how does this work?

Please be aware that this is a common method among most antispyware/antivirus software. When Spyware Doctor quarantines your infections the files are scrambled and become no longer dangerous to your PC. The reason for this is if Spyware Doctor accidentally detects a legitimate program as a spyware threat, you can restore this from quarantine.
Please be assured that these quarantined files can cause no harm to your computer and take up very little space. In the event that you delete the quarantine files and this causes some erratic behaviour, you are able to use the restore feature.
Once you have purchased the 12 months subscription for Spyware Doctor, this includes all free software uprgrades, Smart Updates and full Technical support during this period. So if you wish to download Spyware Doctor v5 Beta, this is free.
If you decide to install the Beta version, it will replace your current version, ie, Spyware Doctor version 4. If you download the Beta version and wish to go back to Spyware Doctor version 4, this can be downloaded from www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download.
To check the known issues with the Beta version, please click here (http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44951).

Thanx Anthony & Nicholas
It's nice to see that some vendors do care about their customers ....
But I just received an email inviting me to download Version 5
Is this the bug-fixed version that replaces the Beta 5 version?
And how bout my $30 that I just laid out (just to get rid of the annoying Pop Up's)
I don't want to sound unappreciative - but this gets me back to my original complaint and my original post

As Anthony said, your $30 purchase includes any updates, so you can update to v5 on your existing license at no extra cost. However SD5 is still in beta AFAIK. I'm sure there'll be posts on the forum once it is a full release.

Hello and thanx for your reply!
"As Anthony said, your $30 purchase includes any updates"
"I'm sure there'll be posts on the forum once it is a full release."
If I don't download Beta 5, and wait, will my $30 also cover the 'FULL RELEASE'?
Thanx

As long as your subscription hasn't expired, yes. You'll even get SD6 if they release it while your subscription is still current, though that's probably a long way off. :)

The USD$29.95, covers all free software upgrades, smart updates and full technical support during the 12 month period.
You can upgrade as many times as you like, whenever a new version is released. At the moment, Spyware Doctor version 4 is the latest version. However, we have Spyware Doctor version 5, but this is still a Beta version. We are currently testing this version and resolving any issues found in the Beta version. The final version of Spyware Doctor 5 should be released shortly. For more information on the issues of SDv5 beta, please click here (http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44951).
So if you wish to continue using Spyware Doctor version 4 for the time being, you can do so and can upgrade to Spyware Doctor version 5 once this has been released.
Hope this answers your question :)
Cheers,
Anthony

Hello Anthony
Thanx again!
Yes, I think I'll wait (as you say), my recent renewal is good for 12 months. And Anthony I would think that the FULL version 5 will become available BEFORE my renewal expires - wouldn't you agree?
Anthony you've restored my faith in PCTools!
