I use AVG Free version 7.5 anti-virus software and I've noticed that after I installed the PC Tools Firewall Plus that now when I'm in AVG's Test Center if I click on the "Check For Updates" button I get an AVG error message saying the update server connection failed and it tells me to make sure I'm connected to the internet and to make sure my firewall is allowing AVGINET.EXE. I am connected via my DSL and AVGINET.EXE is included in the Firewall Plus "Application" area. I can go into AVG's Control Center and click "Check For Updates" and it works as it should, and I can also right click the AVG icon in the systems tray and then click "check for updates" and it works as it should there as well. Only when I'm in AVG's Test Center do I get the error message. If I turn Firewall Plus off and then I click the update button in the Test Center then and only then will it check for updates. I posted this question to the AVG forum and that person suggested there's another file besides the AVGINET.EXE that I need to let the firewall allow but he was unsure which file it might be. Here is his reply, "You should probably have more than just AVGINET.EXE in the firewall but I'm not sure what that firewall will require... PS... the Test Center update and the Control Center updates are the same procedure so its probably something you have missing... "

Anyone have any ideas regarding this? Thanks!

Can you please check the following:

1. Check if the application exists in the application list as blocked
2. Check if there are Filtering logs that block these operations (Make sure that all blocking rules have the log option ticked before running the tests)

Hi: from years of experience with AVG and other firewalls I think you need several files to be allowed. In my current version of PCtools FW+ I have the following allowed with no update problems at all.

AVGINet[LIST]
AVGEMC to cover email scanning
AVGW The launcher for the prog
AVGCC the control panel

from memory these were the same 4 I had to allow for my previous Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro.

Hope this helps

All the AVG files listed under "applications" are allowed (green check mark). No logs are being generated by Firewall Plus when I get the error message. All four of the AVG files mentioned by Tanimoto are listed under "applications" and all are allowed (green check mark). I still get the error message and it won't update from the Test Center. I suppose I could just keep adding AVG files to the list until I finally find the right one, or do you not recommend doing that? It's a puzzle

Same here, can't get AVG to update unless the firewall is disabled.

Sorry for the late response. We will test this issue and let you know ASAP. I have a feeling though it is connected to a known issue we have in this version of the firewall which is addressed in the next version (coming soon). Anyway I'll let you know shortly.

Hi
I have the inverse problem! AVG 7.5Free (latest sig file) detects the file Update.exe that is part of PC Tools Firewall as a trojan downloader and disables access. Of course this stops Smart Update from working...

By any chance is this fixed in 2.0.0.12?
