win 98 display prop's

my son crashed his gateway system and i had to reload all the drivers, now i cannot get the display properties above the default min. (16 colors etc.) the registry looks ok, does anybody have any ideas?

Under the Display properties (Control Panel Icon) and under the Settings tab locate the "Advanced" button near the bottom. Reinstall your monitor, and maybe adapter, drivers. This should at least get the right drivers to run the higher resolutions and color modes install. If you have the original drivers for the video card/monitor, use them. The monitor is most-likely supported straight from Windows, but the video card is always best installed from the original media. Good luck!
