Me down load speed

Having gone from a modem to an always on radio link my web browsing has gone up about 4 times. using napster downloads average 4-5 times faster . Yet if I download something where the grey oblong appears with the blue status line the download speed is about the same as my modem used to be. Also using any download manager which claims to auto check speed there is no increase in speed.
Is there some setting Im missing as I want to utilise my new found speed all the time.

having a high-speed link at the receiving end does not change the speed that the sending site is connected to the net. So before your modem could not keep up with the speed that Napster could deliver, but for your other sites even your modem speed may have been sufficient.
Concerning download managers: they will dynamically choose the fastest site, if given a choice, according to current internet load. So internet congestion may be a reason you do not see any improvement. If you try downloads at times of lower network load, can you see speed differences then?
If you run multiple downloads simultaneously, you should be able to see a combined thruput that is more than on a modem.
But be careful if you are running e.g. a music / radio connection, it may be using so much of the available bandwdth that a download concurrent to this will still take long (not be faster than before).

Thanks Richard for taking the time to reply and I had considered your ideas. However by a stroke of luck I came upon a website that dealt with the very same problem. It appears that even though I have gone from a modem to an ethernet card and changed Internet options accordingly there are settings in the registry that need to be changed. Apparently IE is optimised for modems regardless of the fact that you are using other means. I downloaded a patch from this site for ME fast connection users and would you believe it, my downloads using the means I decribed, have gone from my modem speed of 3.5kbs to 22KBs for a single download or total speed for multiple downloads. napster has also gone up a couple aswell to 18-20. Thses are the speeds I expected. There is no mention of this fix anywhere in ME/microsoft .
