Hi there..i got a problem with secondchance.(Backup program).hmm...After installing another hardisk, windows keeps searching for a specific *.DAT-file (0004BE.DAT) from a checkpoint in secondchance.I tried to locate it ,found it,but it needs to be associated with a program(that never happend before,of course)i´ve done some searching and came up with that the info to run this file could be in either the "USER.DAT" or "SYSTEM.DAT" i´m not shure of this but could you guys mabe help me out? Or where could the entry be?Registry ?
I did a reinstall of secondchance , to see if that will stop windows from looking for that file, but it will still search for it at every startup!
I´m running win98se.

Product:2C 2.0 EN ..THX ..

When does Windows look for this file? On start up? What happens when it can't find it? Can you just click OK, and Windows boots normally?

If so, then I would do a search in the registry for that file that looks like it is called up during boot (ala keys RUN, RUNONCE etc.), then EXPORT IT, JIC, and then remove it.

Reboot, see what happens.

You can always restore it from the exported file if the problem doesn't change (or get worse).

Check where the file was located in startup in ms config, for example autoexec.bat, registry or startup folder and delete it from the relevant area
