I uninstalled McAfee firewall and antivirus and the rest of their program from my computer this morning and installed Avast antivirus and then PC Tools Firewall Plus and after I was prompted to download it, up came some dialog boxes and I was not aware of what they were but I clicked yes on them and then after the fw was installed I tried to get online to I/E and it would not go online.

I would like to use your product but I do not know how to access the internet without uninstalling fw first. Could someone please help?
Thanks

I use avast & PC Tools Firewall Plus without problems. After uninstalling McAfee fw, did you use a registry cleaner? What about after uninstalling McAfee av? It's best to have a clean registry before installing new software. http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html

I also use Avast with PC Tools Firewall and have no problems with them running together.

It's always a good idea to read and understand what it is that you are clicking "yes" to.

Seconded.

Your request for assistance is rather vague, which in turn makes it harder for us to help you... personally, my guess is that your browser asked for access to the internet, and you clicked "no".

After purchasing registry mechanic and using it I then reinstalled PC tools firewall and experienced same problem. 4 Avast windows opened with mail protocol errors 10022 so I clicked ok on all four to remove them and then tried IE/7 access and was denied. I then ran a diagnostic check by microsoft and they got me caught in a loop of deja vu that I can't make it out of without restarting computer and then it prompts me through the whole process again and again and again. I tried it 3 times and then decided that I need help again. Thank god I wasn't using this on my wifes computer or I would be dead by now. I know it is something I am doing wrong and the only thing I can think of is the post here:

We have fixed a bug in the logic of creation of filtering rules which caused the remote port configuration not to be saved. We suggest that you Smart Update to the latest version. The Smart Update process will update the PCTFW.exe (to test that you have received the latest update, right click on the PCTFW.exe and choose properties, then check that the version of the PCTFW.exe is 1.0.0.10)

We have also updated the Filtering rules but since we do not want to automatically replace the rules for users who edited their rules we have not released it in the Smart Update. You can download the latest rules by saving the attachment to this post. You can use this rule by shutting down the firewall and then go to C:\Program files\ PC Tools Firewall Plus, rename the old rule file (RulesSet.rls) and copy the new RulesSet.rls file to that directory, then restart your firewall.

Is it possible that I need to do this to fix the internet connectivity issue I am having?

1. During the installation your connection will be lost. This is because when installing NDIS drivers this is usually what happens. You will need to reboot.

2. I assume that after the reboot, if you are still having the problem. Go to the Filtering rules and untick the last rule (‘All Other Packets’) and then click apply. If the connection is not fixed we will resolve this in the next version.

I tried this but am not sure what untick meant accept to just click on the box with the check mark in it at the front and take the check mark out. I did this and clicked apply but still no internet connection?
