I've noticed that PCTAV seems to have a relatively mediocre record of detecting trojans while scanning some samples lately, though to be fair the samples weren't part of the official ItW set. What I'm interested to know is that if the developers intended PCTAV to be used alongside Spyware Doctor to stand in as a trojan scanner. Would be nice for someone to clarify this, and how PC Tools intends to handle trojan detection in the future - by writing them as part of Spyware Doctor's malware database, PCTAV's, or both?

Thanks.

Spyware Doctor and PCTAV will both detect trojans. Removal of these trojans will depend on the types of trojan it is and their behaviour. As you mentioned, it would be a good idea to be able to remove these trojans with either PCTAV or SD.

Thanks for the clarification. What I noticed with AVG's line of products was that the virus scanner seemed to leave out detection of some trojans, to let them be picked up by the spyware scanner, and I was wondering if PC Tools would go down the same route. Glad to hear not, it'd be a big bother.

That being said, the detection capabilities of the anti-virus could still use some improvements...

Since the antivirus is using a different engine as discussed from the link, it looks like PC Tools are working on improving the engine. I have a feeling that this could be a great antivirus program after some time with alot of improvements. We'll just have to wait and see. :)
