I have installed my RM and completed registration. Then I opened it and tried
to start scan , the screen appeared the message:
Registry Mechanic is missing core application file C:\Program Files\
Registry Mechanic\log\ignore.dat
Please reinstall.

I uninstalled RM and reinstalled it as the message indicated. However it was still unable to scan my computer. Can anyone tell me how to solve my problem?
Cardially yours.:confused:

To help resolve this issue, please see below:

Could you please be able to navigate to Registry Mechanic log folder, by default this would be (C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\log) and confirm if all these files ignore.dat igdskeys.log & igds.log are here.

If these files are not there, it is likely that if you have a windows cleaning programs such as Webroot Windows Washer removing the ignore files as part of the cleaning process of the software. You will either have to temporarily disable the windows cleaning software from automatically cleaning these files or if possible uncheck Registry Mechanic as an item to be cleaned. If this is the case please reply back with the program that is removing the log files.

To resolve the problem, Please try a re-install Registry Mechanic:

1. Close Registry Mechanic (if open).

2. Navigate to Start - Programs - Registry Mechanic - Uninstall Registry Mechanic.

3. When un-installation is complete, please re-start your computer.

4. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files and delete the 'Registry Mechanic' folder (if it still exists).

5. Download Registry Mechanic from http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic, Click Download in the left menu > Save
the file, rminstall.exe, to a location on your computer

6. Navigate to where you saved the file. Find 'rminstall' icon and double click it to launch the Registry Mechanic installer.

==========================================

If problems persist;

First, check & update windows with the latest patches this is available from:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

As temporary workaround you can try running Registry Mechanic while in Safe Mode to determine if a third party software application is affecting Registry Mechanic. Please see the steps below.

1. Close Registry Mechanic (if open).

2. Navigate to Start - Programs - Registry Mechanic - Uninstall Registry Mechanic.

3. When uninstallation is complete, please re-start your computer.

4. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files and delete the 'Registry Mechanic' folder (if it still exists).

5. Download Registry Mechanic from http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic, Click Download in the left menu > Save the file, rminstall.exe, to a location on your computer

6. Reboot into Safe Mode
To Restart the computer in Safe mode:
*When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup
menu appears with various options.*By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode'. Do not select 'Safe Mode with networking' or any other modes.

7. Navigate to where you saved the file. Find 'rminstall' icon and double click it to launch the Registry Mechanic installer.

8. Attempt to run Registry Mechanic while in Safe Mode.

Please confirm if Registry Mechanic worked in Safe Mode. If so then a software application is removing or modifying the Registry Mechanic files.

===========================================

It could also be the case that an Anti-Virus program is modifying the ignore.dat file as a result you will have to temporarily disable your Anti-virus/Anti-Spyware and other system monitoring software before running a scan & repair in Registry Mechanic.

Try the following after booting into windows normally.

1. Disable Anti-virus / Anti-Spyware and other system monitoring software.
2. Perform Two consecutive scan & repairs in Registry Mechanic.

Thank you for your kindly support,Mr.ACHEN.
I have tried to solve my problem according to your indication but in vain.
The RM is still unable to function. While I am in a dilemma,I search the forum for help. It is lucky for me to get an article from you to suggest to use the version 5 of Registry Mechanic. I do it immediately and it does work well.
Owing to my OS is win2k, I think the version 6 is not due for win2k.
Do you agree with my opinion?
Cardially yours.

For Registry Mechanic to function and perform its processes correctly on other language versions of Windows, Registry Mechanic will need to run in a unicode environment, at this point in time, Registry Mechanic developers are working on a release of Registry Mechanic that operates correctly in a unicode environment.

For more information on unicode please visit the site below.

http://www.unicode.org/

Please confirm if you have East-Asian or English language version of windows installed on your computer or other Asian language add on?

Check the following details of your system.

Click Start>Settings>Control Panel and open 'Regional Language Options'

Please provide details of what appears here.

1. Click on Regional Options tab and note the Language used under "Standards and Formats"

2. Click on Advance tab and note the language used under "Language used for Non-Unicode Programs"

If under the Advance tab, you have selected a language other that English. Please try and change this to "US English" as this would resolve the problem.

I can see that you are currently using RM 5.0. If you are having this problem, please see below for a workaround.

If you do have an East-Asian version of Windows, the previous version of Registry Mechanic (Registry Mechanic version 5.0) will work on your system without getting the error message. If you do not have the program or setup file for Registry Mechanic 5.0, this can be downloaded from the link below.

The RM developers are working on releasing Registry Mechanic that can run in an unicode environment which will be available on the future release of Registry Mechanic.
