Hi,
I noticed today that PCTFW blocks links to the web in my e-mail. I have logs for blocked and allowed enabled, but they show nothing. I use outlook 2003.
I did some more testing and turns out that when IE7 is allready running, the links do open in a new tab. But when IE7 isn't running and I click on a link, IE7 starts, but there's no connection.
How can I solve this?
Thank you.

Firstly, make sure all the logs are ticked for all the 'Filtering Rules'.
Once you have ticked the logs, open Outlook 2003 and take a screenshot of the logs and attach it.

How can I change the logging for filtering rules?

To allow logs, go to Filtering Rules-> double click the Rules and select next-> tick the checkbox for 'logs' and clicked finished and apply.
Make sure you do not have outlook running until you have finished.

Thanks for the reply c_edge,
I have made logs and looked at them but couldn't find anything strange. Tried deactivating all filtering rules, still blocked every link. Only when I exit PCTFW links work again.
Tried to upload attachments for the last hour but the stupid thing refuses to accept anything. Tried jpg, png and zip. Upload 119kb jpg when 120kb is allowed, I get the message that it is 118.3kb too many????????????

With the screenshot, save it as a .jpeg image as the limit is set to 120kb. How big is the file anyhow?
Ive tried to reproduce Outlook 2003 with the PCTFW but cant get the same results.

Hi Neoxellos, can you double click on some of those 'authorize most common internet services' and see which port(s) are being denied ? This particular rule allows local ports 1024-5000.

Hi aintdunnit,
These are all 110=>1696, 1696=>110 and 110=>1697, 1697=>110.

Hi, while I normally use outlook express I activated my 60 day trial of microsoft office 2003 and tried outlook 2003. I have had no problems with email or clicking web links inside an email. IE opens and goes to the web link without any problems.Sorry I could not help.

Hi aintdunnit,
Tried it with outlook express and those links worked perfectly. Tried Outlook 2007, same problem, links don't work. But since it seems to work with everybody else maybe it's something else. I use ad muncher, tried with disabled AM and other filtering but that changes nothing. O well, guess I just start up IE7 first before I use a link.

Hi,
I'd like to confirm I have exactly the same error. I am using Office 2003 and tried the same on multiple different PC's. There are 0 applications being blocked.
Also the same problem is there when using Firefix instead of Internet Explorer.
It works when there's a previous IE/Firefox window open, but if it's the first time for IE / firefox to open it doesn't work.
Any1 got any ideas?

Also, If packet filtering is disabled the same problem still occurs. When I disable application filtering/ blocking it works again. There are no entries in the Log.

FWIW, my situation seems virtually identical to Neoxello's: same software (IE7 + MS Outlook 2003); same problem. So it's clear this problem isn't unique to to Neoxello's computer. Hopefully, PC Tools will develop boilerplate workaround instructions or a software patch for those of us using their firewall with these programs.
BTW, my thanks to Neoxello for the tip, i.e., to start IE7 before clicking on links in e-mails.

I've fixed it on multiple pc's here by re-registering urlmon.dll..
start->run->"regsvr32 urlmon.dll"
You will need a reboot btw
Hope this helps you guys too. Either this fixed it, or it's a pure coincidence it fixed it here...

We have found the problem (a minor but annoying BUG in this version). We will address this in the coming release (very soon). Sorry it took so long.

That's good news. I won't be able to test it though. I'm on vista 64 now.:o

Hi AChen,
I have a customer with the issue described in this thread. Has a fix been found for it?

Since the last post in this thread was from 2007, you might want to download the latest version and try it.

Ok, thanks.;)
I'll check my customers version. I'm sure he said he had only recently paid for it.
If his licence is valid, can he download the current version?

PCTFW is a free product ;)
And yep, if you do have a subscription for any of the PCT products, you can upgrade any time when a new version is released.
