I have run Find file and searched for regedit.exe/rege/reg/ and I still can't find it, I recently was made a victim to the program wincrash, and some how think that it was involved. If you have any suggestions or are willing to send me a copy of regedit (as I cannot reinstall) I'd be very grateful. Thank you in advance

Good source for windows files is:
WWW.WINDRIVERS.COM
They have quite a bit of files of all types there.
Good Luck!

If you are running win 98 at the run command type in sfc and then scan for altered or corrupt files, if that don't work i will e-mail it to you

or....
if you use win98 you can find regedit in WIN98_42 CAB. Use an extraction program like winzip to extract the file to the windows folder.

Thank you everyone... your comments were very helpful, but i sort of beat you to the punch, I installed windows in a different directory, copied the file , and since i couldn't get it to read windows as my starting directory , I had to reinstall windows in the original spot anyway. But Thanks for trying to help! I appreciate it

Im glad it worked out. just an fyi.... in the future before you install a second copy of windows back up system.ini, win.ini and msdos.sys files first.
Then when your ready to convert back to your original windows install overwrite the system.ini, win.ini and msdos.sys files with your backup. This action will auto set all entries and point them to your original windows.
see the example msdos.sys file below.
;FORMAT

WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
DoubleBuffer=0
