View Full Version : RM Targets Security App!

What's the significance of RM targeting an app?
I've a new PC that came with Infineon Trusted Platform Module. After reading about this, I removed it & its drivers--hardware remains.
I felt it was protecting the film & music industry, not me.
I then d/l'd RM to aid in the general decrapifying of the PC. After realizing I needed more information on the Infineon app, I reinstalled it.
RM "eats" it! I whitelisted it & RM leaves it alone, however I'd like to know the significance of RM's actions. Is this an indication the app is not properly installed? Since it's a security program that wouldn't be good!
I've never had a problem with RM before, however I've not used this new version either.
Please give me some feedback. Thanks!

hey,.... i had a similar problem.. RM was eating my printer drivers. and what I heard was RM sometimes detects legitimate programs and we have to add it to ignore list. Good thing about RM is, if there are any problems after repairing the problems, we can restore the changes made by RM.
Cheers

I've used RM on another PC for quite a while & it has never behaved this way. I've never had to whitelist anything. I've always been very comfortable with RM. This version seems more aggressive in general. I'd like to know what would make it target a particular app.
I'd like to hear from PC Tools if possible.

Hi Michele,
We need to get some detailed information about the way Registry Mechanic is scanning. Please send us your Registry Mechanic logs to support@pctools.com by following the procedure below:
1.Navigate to the "\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\Log" and "\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\Data" folder and attach all the files in the "\Log" and "Data" directory.
2. You may want to compress them using zip or rar as they can be rather large.
As soon as we receive the logs, we will analyze them and inform you when we have the results.
Thanks,
Mir

Hi Mir,
Just took a look at the log & only the last scan I did is on it--since whitelisting Infineon TPM. I'll attempt to recreate the "eating" if you'd like--was easy enough last night! The data only had the key for the program (just as I wrote it) listed on its text part--the other things there gave me a warning when I clicked on them, so I left them alone.
So would the log & the first text part of data be sufficient if I recreate the action?

I recreated the action & sent log & data files off.
Now I no longer have the ability to reinstall the software for Infineon TPM!
When I click on the installer executable it gives me an error msg:
Windows cannot access the device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions.
I right clicked on it & its properties tab lists me with full control.
Now what? I was able to do this the other night at least 3 times to make sure it was RM that was eating it--it's a security feature of the PC!
I tried to d/l over again & same thing.
I would really like your attention re this matter.
Michele
Edit: I d/l the drivers & software, reinstalled this time, whitelisted it with RM again.

You may need to recreate a new Admin account to resolve this by the look of it.
Hope it helps

Hi,
Like that signature! I was able to install once I d/l the drivers again.
I also spoke with PC Tools & was told to restore. I don't understand why this would reveal anything if the app was not on the PC at the time I installed RM. How can restoring to a time when these two were getting along help---if such a time did not exist? I must be missing something!
I am waiting for clarification.

Thank you Anthony! The log & data files sent on 1/21/07 don't have a "number". I've sent the number from the correspondence that followed my phone conversation with PC Tools on 1/22/07. I appreciate your stepping in!
