Since this firewall is based upon the Look 'n Stop engine, does PC Tools plan to offer the ability to import user-created rulesets in a future version? Also, can the firewall utilize existing rulesets designed for Look 'n Stop? I know LnS offers both a standard and an enhanced rulset as part of its installation - will PC Tools consider offering something similar?

Hi squibbon,

With the import/export feature, looks like it will be implemented in future versions.

Check http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44639 post #7.

Thanks, c_edge - I hadn't looked at that particular topic. Nice to know they're implementing this.....

I already answered my other question myself - a friend who uses L'nS printed out its standard and enhanced rulesets so I could compare them with PCT FP's - the structures of the .rls files are similar but definitely different, so I don't think you could use an L'nS .rls file with PCT FP.....:(

I hope i posted this question in the right area. i am on a wireless pc behind a wireless router with that firewall enabled. when i used comodo firewall i would let my pc 192.168.1.101 go out icmp to router 68.87.75.194 and 68.87.64.146 for port unreachable logs to stop appearing. this is router's dns. do i need to do anything special with pc tools fw for my pc to do this? why i ask is because i have wireless adapter set to get my ip address and dns server address from router. i hope i am the right track here and gave enough info for help. thanks.

If you mean the ‘port unreachable’ ICMP message (ICMP type 3 and ICMP code 3) then just add this rule as allowed. Make sure that this rule is before the ICMP: ICMP types rule which blocks all ICMP packets.

thank you Chippa. i am not getting this message with pc tools firewall. i was just asking if pc tools fw settings allow my wirelss pc to communicate with my router so my pc receives ip addresses automatically. the message i got with commodo was that 192.168.1.101 (my pc ip) was trying to go out using icmp to 68.87.75.194 and 68.87.64.146 which are my router's dns addresses. i had to make a rule to allow them with comodo, i just wasn't sure if i had to do it with pc tools.

Just to confirm, we will add Import/Export to the next version (we might release a fast patch if a severe BUG is detected. This will not include Import/Export but the next planned version will definitely have Import/Export) of the Firewall. We will try to add rules to our site the same way LnS does so it will be easy for users to fix specific issues with their own environment.
