View Full Version : Atelier Web Firewall Tester

Hi,
Been using PC Tools Firewall Plus (version 1.0.0.9) and find its easy to use. However I do not comprehend too well the filtering rules, so I've left these alone.
What I'm worried about is that PC Tools Firewall Plus default settings do not pass the Atelier Web Firewall Tester (2 points vs 8 for AWFT) which respond that the firewall is porous.
Either one of two things: either there are settings in PcTools Firewall Plus that will enable a higher level of security and I'd like to know them or this firewall needs more work.
Thanks

Hi
The Filtering rules enable you to control which protocols to allow for incoming and outgoing traffic. When an incoming/outgoing packet is monitored by the Firewall, it looks for an appropriate rule and will allow/block the packet based on that match. We are in the process of fine-tuning the rules to enable most commonly used applications. In future version we will automate the process and most users would not have to manualy update this list
Regarding the security tests we are looking into it and will let you know our finding

I Had a look at Atelier and most of the leak tests are indeat not part of the current firewall. At that stage I could only suggest that you use an Anti-Spyware that will block those attacks and many others. I can recomend using our award-winning spyware protection Spyware Doctor 4.0 (http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download/).

Thanks for your replies HDAVID. I already own and use PcTools Registry Mechanic and this attracted me to PcTools Firewall Plus. But I'm not about to load up on yet another software to compensate for PcTools FP.
I also appreciated the fact that you took the time to check out AWFT, which btw is one of 26 firewall testing tools available for download at matousec.com

In the mean time, I've gone back to my old firewall but I'll be watching for any updates to PCTools Firewall Plus, as I really want to use it.
All the best,
Villebon
