View Full Version : Scan taking 3+ hours to complete?

When I first purchased the PC Tools AntiVirus the first few scans took what I would consider a normal amount of time. 30 minutes maybe. Now, after an hour the scan is only 4% complete with no infections found. PC Tools had me start my computer in "safe mode" and run a full scan. I am now 3+ hours into the scan and it is 95% complete with no infections.
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop with Window XP Professional, 40 GB hard drive with 24 GB free.
Anybody else experiencing this?

Hey brickyard1911,
Have you made any changes to your computer since the first few times you have run a scan with PC Tools AV?. Normally AV runs for anywhere between 1hr and 1.5hr.
So how long does it take in normal mode and safe mode?

Anybody else experiencing this?
Yes the same here.
The scan takes sooooo muuuuucccccccch to complete.
I don't like full scans taking very much time.
If it was like spwyare doctor... it does a full scan in 10 minutes.

Hi charlespt,
What are your computer specs?
Are you running anything else with AV?
As mentioned above a scan usually takes anywhere between 60-90min.
Also I would suggest you try to run a scan in safemode with networking.
Another suggestion is if you are a registered user of Spyware Doctor, install the Beta version and install the AV-Plugin and see how long a scan takes as this will also scan for Viruses and Spyware/malware.
Cheers,
Chippa
