I thought I would drop a few lines of feedback on Registry Mechanic, as well as comments on the PCTools site.

So far, I am very happy with the Registry Mechanic product. (I have v6.) I was able to clean up my registry and resolve my remaining performance issues in a very short amount of time.

My suggestion for the tool would be to add more robust user documentation!! What little bit of help documentation available offline is outdated, and doesn't go into any sort of detail about the functionality of the product. Since this is a tool with the capability to completely destroy someone's Operating System, including documentation seems like a must to me. A link to an online manual just doesn't cut it in my book.

My second suggestion is to beef up documentation for the tool on the web site, and to keep it up to date with the latest version! I was confused about the available functionality of the tool because the manual said one thing, and I saw something completely different on my computer screen! Also, keep previous manuals in an archive for those folks who still own the older versions of the product.

Improving navigation would be a plus, too. I have yet to figure out how to come directly to the PCTools site and find the Registry Mechanic help manual without clicking the "Help" link within the tool itself. The PCTools site is sadly lacking in content to begin with, but what content is here is really confusing to navigate through, or very limited in scope. If it wasn't for this forum, many users wouldn't be able to find answers to their questions!

Luckily, I did not have issues with my registration, or technical problems, so I haven't had to deal with technical or sales support. From what I've read, both are nightmares. Again, if it wasn't for the forum, some of those issues may not get cleared up in a timely fashion, either!

I bought Registry Mechanic after someone in the Technet forums suggested it. Usually folks over there are pretty picky about the tools they choose, which says a lot about the product itself. I think PCTools does have good products, with real potential, but until some attention is given to the customer relationship aspect of the business, I can't see the company growing beyond what it is now.

This is not meant as a flame at all! I really do believe PCTools could offer a lot to the community if they improve in those areas!

Thanks for listening!
Kirsten
