View Full Version : Exactly what version of Window 98 do I have?
How can I tell what version of windows 98 I have? I think I have Windows 98 SE, but I heard of Windows 9x and NT.

Two easy ways to check your version:
1) Open up Control Panel -> System, then under System Properties it will list your version.
2) Open a command prompt (DOS window) and type "ver" that will also show your version details.
When one of our tweaks says that it works on Windows 9x and NT, that is a short way of saying that it should work on Windows 95, 98, Me and Windows NT/2000. It just means any of the Windows 9x products or Windows NT products.

Microsoft product development has evolved from its initial Windows 3.1 in two lines:
one for home users and small business is Win95, Win98, Win98SE (2nd edition - is a Win98 with fixes after the first year), WinME (mainly Win98 with IE5 and more multimedia stuff),
the other targeted at business is Win NT3.5 WinNT4 and now Win2000, the last two coming as a workstation and as a server version.
What Windows version you have you can tell from the Properties of My Computer, right-click on the icon of My Computer on the desktop.
