i need help with reformatting my laptop. my internal dvd drive stopped working about a year ago and my both my hard drives are full of corrupted files and are in need of reformatting...i dont know if it wud help but i have copied my installer on one of my drives... thank you!

Since both partitions are corrupted it's possible your installer is also, but even if it isn't formatting both partitions will remove the installer leaving nothing to work with.
I've had good luck with www.priorityelectronics.com in obtaining replacement optical drives for Notebooks. Yours wouldn't have to be a DVD, could be a cheaper CD-ROM.
Issues with using USB external drives are they need Windows installed to have support for USB ports.
