Hi, I'm not sure whether this is the right area to ask this question but if someone knows the solution I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying to run an application that uses a 16-bit installer on my server, but when doing so I get an error saying 'NTVDM encountered a hard error' with only two options, 'close' or 'ignore' both of which seem to do the same thing. I've already tried the following solutions but to no avail:-
1.) Changed 'TMP' and 'TEMP' to 'c:\temp' under 'Environment Variables'.
2.) Copied autoexec.nt back into 'c:\windows\system32' but after a restart the file is deleted again.

Has anyone got any ideas? My server is running Windows server 2003 SP1 and has a dual 2.8GHz Xeon Processor with 1GB of RAM and 3 x 73GB SCSI Hard Drives.

Just another quick query: When adding a new hard drive to a server how do you include it as part of an existing partition?

Thanks.

Have you tried compatiblity settings? Just rightclick that 16 bit installer exe file and select Compatability tab. If that doesn't help, you cannot do much.

Usually you cannot add new hard disk as existing partition, but I think if your partition type is set to dynamic, it might be possible to add more disk space to it. I haven't used dynamic partitions so I don't much about them. For normal (basic) type partitions you can create empty directory and use mountvol command to mount whole partition to that directory.

Did WinNT 4 have such a Compatibility Mode as WinXP has? It's been so long since I've used WinNT 4 that I can't recall it. Don't even see it in my Win2000.
