I have a new 250GB SATA and am switching it over as my main OS disk, at the moment partitioned with a 30GB chunk for Win2k with the rest as free space (as yet unused).
I'd like to know how best to:
- clone the 2K installation to another drive (I have two other disks that are unplugged at the moment - a 250GB SATA and a 160GB IDE - while I find out the best sequence of doing all this) followed by
- doing a new installation of WinXP Home on, either another disk or another drive (depending on which is the easiest AND keeps all three OSs as separate, independent installations).
Currently the bulk to the two older disks is full of family home video. I expect to move some of these large captures and the finished MPEGS on to the formatted part of the new 250 SATA to free up space for the cloned 2K and WinXP installations.
Once done, I'd use OS2000 bootloader to select the right OS at boot. I prefer, if possible, to use this rather than the MS NTL bootloader which, I've read, can confuse/mix parts of the installations.
*An important extra linked question,
- is there any problem in using a SATA as the main drive when I'll also be using the two IDE channels as well? Is there a conflict in having a disk on the primary IDE channel yet running the main 2K installation from the SATA? (Before SATA, the rule was the main OS disk was on the primary IDE channel.)
All help would be most welcome.
