OK, This problem has been going on for quite a while. In short, when I open Internet Explorer, the browser opens, it tries to load the homepage (or any page for that matter) and never does. There is nothing in the status bar, and the windows logo on the top right keeps animating as though it's trying to load the page. It will keep doing this until i press Stop, where it tells me "Action Canceled." By the way, all other browsers like Firefox and Opera work without a problem. I need IE because some programs like Winamp use the IE connection, and thus do not work if IE does not work.

I have done everything I could, and nothing helped. I have deleted temporary files, I have reset the web settings. I have checked for spyware, adware, or viruses. I have tried installing internet explorer 7 which did not fix anything, so I went back to 6. I have even tried reinstalling 6 and bypassing the version check (or else it wouldnt even install since it finds a "newer version" of Internet Explorer already installed). I have tried registering the 6 or so dll files as described in one of the microsoft pages. Also, when I double click on the ie6setup.exe file, I first get the error message "A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running Internet
Explorer Setup. Setup will now close." So apparently, IE did not finish installing at one point or another, and now is stuck in this state. Yes, I have edited the registry about a billion times, and nothing. I've called Microsoft support, and they have led me to nowhere. I do not remember how this happened, but I literally tried EVERYTHING. Yes, I have also done sfc /scannow and that did not find a thing. I used Registry Mechanic to try to repair the registry, that did not change anything at all. I have downloaded WinSockFix, which did nothing. I have downloaded the IEFix and LSPFix, which did nothing either. At one point, I thought that one of the windows updates might have killed my IE. I uninstalled all the updated that have been installed recently, and by recently I mean about 3-4 months. As you can tell, I am very frustrated.

So PLEASE, if anybody has something ELSE besides the fixes above (because that's about all I could find online) I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I have some good news and some bad news.

First the good news. On my Dell Dimension 4500 I had exactly the same problem which I raised in the Dell User Forums here:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=194367&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Eventually I got round it by downloading IE7 but it took 3 attempts before I was successful.

Now the bad news. The same problem developed on my Dell Inspiron laptop but so far I have been unable to solve it even using the method that wa successful last time.

However, I do have another suggestion since you seem to have another browser that works, why not contact Winamp and others to find out which browsers will enable you to run your programs.

In any case, it is worthwhile having more than one browser, I have several IE7, Firefox, Avant , Opera and Netscape. I use them all from time-to-time and often have more than one open at the same time, because it enables me to look up data when I am trying to write to a Forum like this one without losing my message.

I'm also having the same problem. For some reason IExploder just stopped loading up the webpages, however I'm able to look up websites and such and type this reply using Opera web browser. Here's a provided screenshot of what I mean.

I'll just put my 3 cents in...
I'm having the same problem as well (I'm running media center). I've had the problem for about 1 month so far. IE7 doesn't fix the problem for me. From my tests (I work as a programmer), IE doesn't send any packets over the network (i.e., zilch) as seen from Ethereal. Obviously no debug messages (DBGVIEW.exe). The stupid thing queries the file system like crazy (see Filemon). A little ridiculous. I can't figure it out.
I'll keep a bookmark on this page to see if anybody comes up with something. Technically, a bug report needs to be filed with Microsoft, but I'm not sure what we did to cause the problem. I originally had 'uninstalled' the IE component, installed it again (it still worked), then removed it, and installed it again (did not work). Is this similar to what you guys did? Perhaps I've got a fragmented install, but I have not yet seen that error message that dimension89 experienced.

im having the same problem I think. I can open IE go to tools/Diagnose Connection Problems and run the tool. It seems to fix it but if I close IE and walk away for say 5 mins maybe more sometimes it happens again and I have to run that diagnostics tool again.
