hi,
i got 2 questions regarding my wireless network.
i have a 3com 3crwe554g72t wireless modem.
1st problem:
if i define the connection to the internet to dial straight from the router it automatically reduces my download speed to 1/3 of the regular expected speed (180) no matter how many computers connected to the router at the moment.
i defined the connection as l2tp.

2nd problem:
when i define the connection as dynamic ip address in the router's interface, i can dial the internet from any of the computers on the network individually.
2 problems with that:
the internet connection isn't shared no matter what i tried to do. i can access files and folders on each of the computers on the network, i can use the network printer, but i can't use the internet connection
second problem in that matter and most inportant of all: dialing the internet is successful however i can't reach any websites. i called my isp to get the DNS ip addresses and after defining them i could surf normally. but when i disconnected i couldn't reconnect until i erased the dns definitions from the network card. so, as you can understand, everytime i connect to the internet i have to erase previous dns definitions then connect and then put the DNS definitions again. it drives me crazy!
and of course my isp provider had no solutions for me...
hopefully you will have
thanks in advance,
sharon.

Assuming you want to share the wireless connection to your DSL Modem/Internet.

Here is your likely scenario;

Configure your DSL modem to connect via PPPoE ( your ISP will have given you a username and password in order to authenticate). Configure the router to be a DHCP server (this will assign IP addresses to your local devices). Ensure your PC's are configured for DHCP.

That is really it!!!

With this type of setup there is no need to use Windows ICS as your router is doing all the work.

Let me know how you get on.

Hello, thank you for your help,
however this wasn't the solution to my problem.
i wasn't able to define it as PPPoE at all.
eventually what solved the problem of the download speed reduction to 1/3 was just a software update to my modem.

i still have other probelms like:
i can't reach some websites using IE, but with firefox it works fine.
and on my laptop with IE it also works fine.
weird problem...
maybe it has something to do with the MTU
