Secure login problems (W2K)

I'm having troubles on my Win2K pro machine loging in to secure login sites like ebay and paypal. I get a message saying, "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." When I follow the "More information link" there is no more info available. This problem is happening only with IE6 not with FF or Opea. I have all the latest SPs and updates installed, which, in fact, makes me wonder if that is really the problem. My experience is that all the changes made by that auto updating stuff works pretty well with XP but can cause problems with W2K.

Any ideas?
