I have inherited a group of PCs that were networked for a school system. When the computer boots up, the network opening page appears. The network sign-on screen is still there. When you bypass the network sign-in, you get the desktop, but most things do not work when you click the mouse. If you click the Start button, the computer gives you the shut-down screen. I have been able to get to the control panel through one of the icons that works on the desktop, but none of the icons on the control panel work when I click the mouse. Is there any way that I can restore the original settings?

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/win98/reskit/part2/wrkc08.mspx?mfr=true> Windows 98 System Policies</a>

Look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Policies \Explore

Clean reinstall might be the simplest way, I think.
