Stop error 0x0000050

I am trying to install win 2k on a toshiba satellite m35x-s149. I tried completely formatting the hard disk (using wipe drive) and then doing clean install, but I get the stop error 0x0000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. When I reinstalled xp, it worked fine, so I don't think there is problem in the hardware and the bios does not offer an option to disable caching or shadowing. Any suggestions?
