I am trying to network my main XP computer to another computer with Win98SE. They both connect to the internet via a Dlink router. I first set up the XP computer and then made a disk with the network program and ran it on the win98se computer. I was able to see the XP from the 98 computer, and print from it, but I could not access or see the 98 from XP computer. After doing some reading, I attempted to install Netbeiu on both computers, and could not get them to connect at all. Now I have deleted Netbeiu and can't get the original TCP\IP connection no matter what I do. I would really appreciate any help as I don't know what I have messed up. Thanks.

Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
With the Windows XP, TCP/IP is installed by default and cannot be removed. A new netsh command has been added to the Windows XP to allow you to reset your TCP/IP configuration to its default values. The new netsh command is
netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]
and is issued at the command prompt. This feature can be useful for IT administrators who find that a computer user has changed the TCP/IP configuration for a computer to incorrect or unsupported values.

Cf. <a target="_blank" href=http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B299357&x=11&y=12> How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP</a>.

In earlier versions of Windows (e.g. W98SE), you could remove the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol and reinstall it with the same effect.
