i just joined this forum today!

have a laptop which has wireless connectivity

it is possible for me to connect to somebody's network & access internet.

is it legal ? can they come to know that i have connected??

how do they allocate an IP address??

it is possible for me to connect to somebody's network & access internet: you can do it if this network is either poorly secured, or intentionally left public (e.g. in a long distance bus, but you would have to know which case).
is it legal: no in the first case, in my country (imho resources abstraction); yes in the second case.
can they come to know that i have connected: yes.
how do they allocate an IP address?: hard row to ***.
