Hi Billusa,
There has been a mistake on the PC Tools Firewall page. This has now been fixed. The Firewall is only supported by Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 server.

If you are currently using Windows Vista or any other operating system besides the ones mentioned above, the PC Tools Firewall will not work.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

To release an AV program this week, for the first time, that does not support Vista seems very strange to me. Do you have plans to make this available for Vista?
Thanks.

Here it is the section of the free Firewall. As it is free, may be it can lack Vista compatibility for the moment.

Maybe it can. Thanks.
I was asking PCTools if they had any plans.

Hi,
Our developers are evaluating this issue and PC Tools Firewall may be supported by other Platforms in the near future with a later version.
Thanks,
AChen

Seems somewhat noncommittal to me, given the recent advent of Vista and the lack of compatibility also with Windows 98/98SE and ME. Ironically many computer users with older hardware and operating systems (i.e. who can't afford to upgrade) are among those most likely to utilize (and require) freeware security solutions with low resource impact such as PCTFW offers. For the sake of those non-techie newbies whom I help with their computers, I hope the "other platforms" will also include some downward compatibility. :)

I also support users who are still using old 98 systems...and I keep telling them to upgrade...upgrade...upgrade. Most of them I have beaten into submission and they have complied...only one to go :D :p
Seriously, I understand there are people who are still using those systems for various reasons, but with the cost of basic systems getting so low there isn't much of a reason not to upgrade anymore (and they're definitely happier once they do). I'll even build systems to meet people's budget to help them move up. (not to mention, I hate working on Win98 and dispise WinME) :)
As for downward compatability; at some point developers have to stop putting their efforts into those old systems and concentrate on current operating systems. As the saying goes, "There's no future in the past"
By the way, I like your avatar
