Hi I am new in this forum. I have a windows 2000 datacenter server OS is has been running smoothly for over a year now. I also configured it as a domain controller. Today I am having this error. "Winlogon.exe - Application Error" What's wrong with my OS? is there other remedy aside from a clean setup? based on my research on the net is says that there is no other way but to have a clean install of the OS. Please help me. Thank you in advance

Some viruses and spyware can install logon notify extensions. This is just wild guess, but maybe you have spyware infection, which installed such extension which is not compatible with W2K winlogon.

Can you logon at all? Safe mode? If not, install second copy ow W2K to another root folder (e.g c:\winnt2). Then you can access and repair registry files for that original installation. Alternatively you could try cd based windows boot systems to access your failing installation. Free BartPE (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/) is for wxp, but perhaps there are others. Try with google. There is ERD Commander 2005 from www.winternals.com, but it is not free.
