Hi everyone,
hope someone have already encountered similar issue , here is the case:
I have wifi router connected to internet through cable modem, my thinkpad is connected directly to the router. What i need is to connect my second machine to the router, not directly but throuhg the thinkpad. I have two network interfaces on thinkpad- ethernet and wifi, wifi is connected directely thoruhg the air to the wifi router and the second machine to thinkpad ethernet. I has enabled routing in registry on thinkpad by modifying IPEnableRouter, also checked that "routing and remote access" service is runing but still cant ping the wireless router from the second machine. Still i can ping my wifi router from thinkpad , and able also to ping both thinkpad interfaces from second machine. Here is the snapshots of "ipconfig" and "route print" on thinkpad:

Two devices configured to the same IP address 192.168.0.1 erroneously.

Configure your Wireless router e.g. to 192.168.10.25 and

Description . . . .: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Physical Address: 00-12-F0-E9-95-C4
Dhcp Enabled. . .: No
IP Address. . . . .: 192.168.10.1
Subnet Mask . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.10.25
DNS Servers . . . : 192.168.10.25

Do a search for ICS in Help and Support center under Start button. There are two important articles (do not know exact English titles, sorry):
Setting up ICS (in recommended topics), and
How to configure static client... (in Microsoft Knowledge Base).

Your router doesnt know that the second machine is there. If you are using simple IP routing, rather than ICS, you need to put in a routing line for the second machine in the router, using the first one as its gateway.

route add 192.168.0.0. mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.5

If your router doesnt allow you to add routes from a command prompt, you will need to add the second subnet somewhere in its config.

You are right, my own reading was erroneous. Excuse me, please.
IMHO you shoud enable and configure Internet Connection Sharing, as described nicely and nonpareilly in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit: Chapter 22 - TCP/IP in Windows 2000 Professional. Matches to Windows XP as well.
